Beauty and Brain

She’s a pillar in a diamond shell;
made with perfection like a gracious well.
Her body sings the melody of grace,
elegant in appearance; tempting to praise.

She’s the delight of a noble king;
far above other attractions in the ring.
Her name is music on a thousand lips;
a lost battle for a taste of her hips.

She’s the rare intelligence of light;
a blend of wisdom and inner might.
Her words break the walls of war;
exposing the foolish bare and raw.

She’s the pleasure of one man’s strength;
the terror of another man’s breath.
Her footsteps command the chariots of time;
causing the stars to align in rhymes.

She’s a woman with beauty and brain;
bringer of the sun and rain.
Her value exceeds silver or gold,
for she’s a treasure for all to behold.

More Than Just a Country

We have felt the sting of pain;
endured the promises of empty gains.
Our patience has passed through the fire;
our strength, hope, and desire.

The world has laughed at our misery;
a show of sheer daylight mockery.
Nations turned their backs on us;
in tears we rode our lonely horse.

Drums of war threatened our peaceful air;
tribalism attacked our weaknesses to bare.
Some predicted our division with scorn,
others doubted the rising of our morning sun.

But today, we stand on a united hope;
marching through history without thoughts to elope.
We have seen the worst on our land;
nothing can tear us beyond the last band.

We’re more than just a country;
we are the honey in Africa’s poetry.
In honour we’ll rewrite our lost story,
giving hope in place of selfish glory.

We are Nigeria; king of Africa!
Our culture stands tall without any replica.
We shall flourish beyond water and sand,
to preserve our home - our beautiful fatherland.

Mother's Pride

I wrapped myself alone in her womb,
and she held me close with joy in her room.
The journey was long and her limb felt pain,
but with love she endured and fought for her gain.
Selfless, determined, rugged like a warrior,
she proved she was more than just a pretty superior.

I cried through the night and disturbed her sleep,
but she defied nature and made it look cheap.
I bit her nipple in my quest for food,
yet she smiled at me for being so rude.
Caring, compassionate, loving like a star,
she proved her love was more than a gold bar.

I shivered under my blanket after I caught the flu,
and she raced all day ignoring her adult boo.
The world told her I wasn't gonna make it,
but on her knees she gave up her last meat.
Resilient, dogged, steadfast like a lioness,
she proved nothing is impossible with His royal highness.

I've gone through pains and hurdles in life,
and she's always there to pass me through the knife.
No one else deserves a grand entry,
than a mother who stands tall for her child like the iroko tree.
Unrivalled, unmatched, unequalled like a colossus,
she has proven she's more than a loyal partner.
