Birthday

Happy birthday to the man soon to be 23
You've grown into a person I'm proud to be
Over the years there has been many battles, I fight you and you fight me
But you've remained strong like the roots of a tree
Years from now I don't know what I'll see
I just pray that you're happy and healthy
Again HAPPY BIRTHDAY to me from me

Note To Self

You may be down, but you're not done
The best of you is yet to come
A knockdown isn't a knockout
And a knockout means a new fight
To lose is to win
Because it teaches you how to look within
What you've might have done wrong
Is now the reason you're strong
Fighting in the ring or in life
You're one step closer to where you belong
You may not get there doing everything right
Or even overnight
It's not a mirage
So don't falsify it when it's in sight
Obstacles and struggles make the journey
Opinions and doubts put your dreams on a gurney
Focus on your end goal
The place in life where you want to be

Good Knight

As I close my eyes real tight
My brain and heart begin to fight
For I am not your prince charming, I am surely your knight
Although I may lie awake, I wish you a good knight

Sharks

Rules are made to be broken
And maybe so are hearts
You would never fall in love if it wasn’t for Cupid and his dumb darts
There aren't as many fish in the sea as you think, there are mostly sharks
They don't hunt off the scent of blood, they hunt off the scent of love
You can be as dirty as a rat or as pure as a dove

Either way you’re still going be scared
Feeling that it cost you an arm and a leg
Part of you wants them back, because of things they said
But you shouldn’t take them back even if they beg
Since they did it before they will do it some more
They just won't leave until you’re left without a core

Be Leaving of Age

How old you turn isn’t the age you are, but the age you are is how old you turn
Lessons only 9,131 days under the Sun could burn
The only degree is learned or unlearned
No first, second, or third
Today is my day whether or not it’s conferred
When it’s over I’ll still attack the world bravely
That doesn’t mean that failures are unchained to me
I thank God for letting me live both figuratively and literally

Perfection

Perfection is who I am expected to be
So perfection is who I strive to be
But perfection is what I will never see
Because perfection just is not me
I have tried finding the great in me
But it is not what it use to be
Perfection is in the dictionary
But it does not define me
Whether perfection is a state of mind or quality
Perfection still does not embody me
If you want perfection, do not look at me
Because perfection is the one thing you will not see

Neverminded

I have no regrets, I just don’t’ like to be reminded
I use to have a heart, I’ll give you $100 if you can find it
I use to see the good in people now I just look behind it
I offered you everything and you abruptly declined it
This is like a bad movie and I can’t re-winded it
Because of you I feel neverminded
