My Age

MY AGE

My age is nothing but a number, nothing but a slumber that I can’t wake from, this is what I’ve done. I’ve looked around and found that the matter of the fact is life isn’t what it’s supposed to be for me.

The average teenager spends most of their lifetime looking at their phones and when it’s time to learn something new their minds have already grown. Absorbing every single thing that they are sold, having a twelve year old’s body and the mind of a twenty one year old.

Social media doesn’t help the situation, it only changes how the different problems are situated. It has stolen complete sentences and created abbreviations, shortcuts of a language used by my generation. You could be laughing out loud when in reality you’re crying, saying TBH to be honest when in actual fact you’re actually lying.
And to that you can’t say anything because if LIFE was abbreviated it would stand for Living In Fear of Everything.

This is what I go through, in addition the music industry has had a major breakthrough. It has managed to be more influential promoting sex, drugs and slurs that are racial. “Making money moves” is about dancing on a pole, “Smoke weed everyday” is the daily intake of dope and this is said all while mentioning the one African American slave term that we all know. My nig-...I can’t say it though. So why do you. You have no idea who that affects. Sometimes we need to learn to be more politically correct.

They say that euphoria is just around the corner, behind the school building in a midst of vape. These are the lies they create, saying everything is ok. Just inhale it once and you’ll be done. I’m sorry, you can call me a loner but don’t mistake me for a stoner. One shot, two shots, three shots, four, hard. Call me antisocial but I’ve never drank before and I’m not about to start.

Society is full of influences, temptations and choices. However people like me always end up being voiceless. They think we’re too young to have any serious issues, that’s just another excuse for not wanting to accept the truth. You choose to change the subject to something totally unrelated, “We don’t have many problems?” well isn’t that an understatement?

You say that it will change, you say it’s just a phase, you say it’s another page in my story, no, this stage, right here...

This is MY AGE!

A Place

A Place

Take me to a place where there are no wars and no fights.
Take me to a place where there is no darkness, only sunlight.
Take me to a place where there are bridges instead of walls.
Take me to a place where we can all stand tall.

Take me to a place away from all the rumors and the stories.
Take me to a place so like Dr King l too may see the glory.
Take me to a place where there is freedom from depression.
Take me to a place where there is freedom of expression.

Take me to a place where I don't always have to explain myself.
Take me to a place where we are not separated by power or wealth.
Take me to a place where there is only good and no evil.
Take me to a place where we don't see color, just people.

Take me to a place where my voice is heard.
Take me to a place where I am allowed to live and to learn.
Take me to a place where less is said and more is done.
Take me to a place where we are all one.

Star

Shine bright from afar
Convince the world that you are
Worth its endless gaze.

Patience

Patience

A word that people say is a virtue,
And a value that exists in very few.
The ability to wait for someone or for something to happen,
Like waiting for Jesus to come and seeing if I made it to heaven.

It is easy to say and pronounce, only when it is a noun,
But when it needs to become a verb, it is hard to act it out.
Humility is another word associated with this term,
And if we know how to use both, many lessons can be learned.

Now the world would be a better place if we all had this gift,
It will make certain that 'World Peace' would no longer be a myth.
But then this dream remains a dream for this world is full of frustrations,
Because at the end of all this, "It takes patience to have patience".

She

She

She sits in complete darkness a place where this world is out of mind and sight.
She listens to music and reads books so that she can try to find light.
She keeps to herself but tries to socialize so that she can still appear to be in touch,
But then it’s not always that easy for her because she thinks a whole lot but doesn’t feel as much.

She creates herself new worlds because this one is complicated and moving too fast.
She writes about history while making history because things were more interesting in the past.
She first writes about ‘The Voyager’ and her journey across an endless sea of poetry.
She then writes a novel of mistakes and times of joy which asks to 'Think This of Me’.
She is now rewriting history in a fictional way to show that her people are not alive by chance.
So that she can prove to the world that we are more than just ‘Heirs of Circumstance’

She is named after a flower and a gem two very beautiful things,
And when she hits those high notes you better believe she can sing.
She can argue with you and even though she’s wrong she always finds a way to be right,
So you better be ready and prepared whenever you face her in a fight.
She can be a joy and a pain to live with and I know that sounds quite bitter,
But then at the end of the day ‘She’ is my sister.

Who He Is

He’s that kid that you look at and wonder who he is,
But you only wonder and never bother, to ask him who he is.
So you ask other people and they tell you who he is,
You get his first and last name, then you think you know who he is

However a name is not enough to fully know who he is,
Like everyone, he has a story that defines who he is.
So then you ask him in person and he will tell you who he is,
You find out more about him and about exactly who he is.

You start to think that you now, really know who he is,
You are now closer to him and much more closer to who he is.
So now you are positive, that you truly know who he is,
You now think that you can finally, understand who he is.

You can see who he is,
But he doesn’t want you to see who he is.
He is afraid he might disappoint you, when you see who he is.
He then hides behind silence to conceal who he is,
And he does this to make sure; you never know who he is.

I Am a Firework

I am the thread of light that whistles towards the stars
Cutting through the darkness hoping to leave my mark.
I am the seconds of silence before you hear me speak
Preparing to show my true colours for all to see.
I am a chemical reaction worthy of your attention
Being a visual phenomenon is my only intention.
I am a firework awaiting my moment to explode
So sit down, look up and enjoy the show.

Wakanda

W - Where the sunrises and sunsets represent a new day
A - As water flows from the mountain tops, showing us the way
K - Knowing we belong without any question
A - As people like us are free from oppression
N - Never separated by gender or skin colour
D - Devoted to the cause and devoted to each other
A - Amongst all the chaos we will fight for one another. Arms crossed in an X, Wakanda Forever!

Time

Time

As it slowly passes by, no one will remember my name,
As it disappears and ends, things will never be the same.
Very small in supply so it will always run out.
Hurting more than words that come from one's mouth.
And because this precious gift is finite in this world,
It starts to become confusing as it begins to whirl.
They put a value on time, but is it really worth it?
"They say that time is money,
But have we ever bought it?"

Feelings

Tell me how to find you
Because when I turn the map the right side up it still seems to be up-side-down.
I know I should ask for directions but I would rather embrace my male-stereotype and just act like
I'm not lost
Because,
I AM NOT LOST!
Ok?
I'm just aware that this might cost
Me my reputation
And afford
Me an explanation
About how I can't live without you.
Look,
I've always had you
But never truly
"Had you"
At least I've never had the courage to confess
But if I had to,
You know that I know that you know that I know
That that will never happen
And that is the truth.
So in the meantime
Please,
Tell me how to not lose you
Again.
