Momma

Blinking my eyes, not wanting the light,
missing the familiar warmth and darkness
loud wail ; half angry, half astonished
My voice?
Careful hold, familiar yet strange
a croon that has been a part of me for so long
The voice; my light in the darkness, my path to follow
“Hi Momma’s Darling!”
Momma? Momma!
One whom I have been a part of
By me through good and bad
Hand tight in hers when mine went limp,
guiding me,
left at the right time
Pushing me to my limits,
“Limits? They are far away!”
Always ahead of me, clear path.
But a weed, two stones; not all roses
Swim the harshest water,
Ride the best horse, not the highest
Need a best friend? Try the killer whale.
Momma.
