Stepping Stones

Entice the mind
with days of laughter
memories shared ever after
As time goes on
I'll wonder how
life goes on without you now
within my heart
you've left your mark
there it will stay
never fading away
the things I learned
the laughs we shared
will stay with me
through all my years
you held my hand
and lead the way
changing my life
every step of the way
with you in mind
I venture on my own
now too leaving
Stepping Stones...

Daddy's Little Girl

Daddy
You’ve been there through it all
Helping me to stand up tall
      Holding my hand
   We explored the land
           Daddy
   You wiped my tears
    and captured my fears
      when I would cry
     you’d be by my side
       letting me know
everything would be alright
         Daddy
You’ve been there through it all
Catching me when I would fall
         Daddy
As I go on my own
   I want you to know
     I will always
          Be
   Daddy’s little girl

Shadow

what is a shadow?
Is a shadow on the wall like a disappearing friendship?
Does it cast an image far from the truth or rather show us life's realities?
Does a shadow change like the bond between two friends?
When your shadow enters the room is it you?
or is a shadow a constant reminder you're never by my side?

Cry

Dust swirls around me
missiles fly by
and I can't help but cry
I close my eyes
and clutch the picture tight
longing for America
to once again be in my sight
the home cooked meals
the happy dreams
Instead all I hear are constant screams
the Friday nights
and big bright lights
rather than bloodshed
and gruesome fights
I open my eyes
only to discover
I've seen things
from which I may never recover
the sadness engulfs me
like the dust that swirls by
and I can't help but cry!

Passing Time

Life is like an hour glass
 glued to the table
as time slips away
memories begin to fade
There are no redoes
The hour has passed
The sand keeps flowing
Life keeps on going
So hold your head high
and seize the day
Life is your stage
The show has begun
Minute by minute
the hourglass goes
Yesterday is gone
and now is the time
to jump on up
and let yourself shine
for you may never know
when your turn is complete
and it is your turn
to take a seat!
