Into the Unknown

Miles from here
The future dwells.
The unending road
Takes me particle by atom
Into thin spaces of air.

Moving forward and never looking back.

The past is a dragging rock
But the future is sky and space.
Clouds cover the trail
That need but a little courage
To squeeze these atoms through.

Moving forward and never looking

Wheels whirr along pavement
The tune a call to journey
Where land and water are more
Than just illusions of survival.
And leaving is not running away.

Moving forward and never

The past, not the future,
Holds me back, until I see
That support from behind
As it bears some of the burden
For pushing these atoms forward.

Moving forward and looking back.

Because no journey begins
Without yesterday’s
Embrace as its starting point.
