Worries

What’s going up and what’s coming down?
How does the dollar compare to the pound?
These were my worries many years past.
I’m finally idle as the years go by fast
Now my worries have flown to the rear
Violence and terror giving me fear
Bombs bursting and people in the air
Causes and purposes never being clear
Is it terror, or just a random crime?
So many young men still doing time
So many women still being abused
So many outsiders still being refused.
I think I should shut off the TV news
Turn on the radio and listen to the blues.

Obsession

I was driving home in a Cadillac
When I saw this girl I adore
But she looked just like a total whack
All colored up like a marble floor
I smiled and waved but she never looked
She was expert at being coy
I kept driving and seeing her vision
It was a vision of eclectic joy
I decided to turn the car around
I felt like an immature boy
But I had to see those colors again
An obsession I wish to destroy.

Football Fan

There once was a football fan from Philly
Who was known for being very silly
During the Eagles Super Bowl win
He dipped his chicken wings in gin
And gulped down Bud Light, dilly dilly

Royal Loyalty

Juan Carmen was very sad when his country lost the war
He felt such a power surely would always reign
And when he found his noble leader, dead on the floor
He knew that their valiant efforts were in vain
He stood right by the conquered Duke, right till the end
No doubt about it, he was a loyal man to Spain
For many years he was just a noble, eccentric friend
But still his faithful, steady persona struggled to remain
Louis, the Duke of Madrid strictly and truly believed
That being the royal mentor to Juan Carmen
Made him realize how much loyalty he received
Now these men determined to always be royal
Carry the torch for the honor of being loyal

Flying High

I sat in my room looking out at a plane going by
Focusing on the white line it made in the sky
And when the plane started to look like a bird
I saw the transformation being so utterly absurd
Sometimes one sees a vision of a dove in a cloud
Or sees a helicopter in flight being just so loud
So many illusions deceive what we perceive
Reality is not necessarily what we believe
At times, I try the impossible, try to see the light
And then I try the incredible, understanding flight
The intricate machine that’s such an awesome wonder
Can soar above more powerful than a clap of thunder

Retiring Friend

I heard you just retired today
Now I have something to say
Get your head out of the sky
Don’t let your life pass you by
Pack your bags, hop in your car
You can travel near or just go far
See all the states you never saw
See the wonders, like Niagara Falls
Take a trek up the Appalachian Trail
Or buy a big boat and just let it sail
There’s plenty of golf in Myrtle Beach
And plenty of fine food just in reach
Loving adventure is the greatest potion
Take a plane ride across the Atlantic Ocean
You’ve got the money and the time
If you need a friend, keep me in mind

Seaman Name Seamour

There once was a seaman named Seymour
Who dived thirty feet down the ocean floor
When he spotted a great white shark
He swam up to the top like a rocket spark
And left the sea for the mountains of Lenoir

Stormy Weather

Stormy Weather

I never noticed until today
That the wind blows south in east PA
The sun only shines between five and nine
And the rain comes in the summertime
Everyone here waits for the smell of roses
But hates the trouble the storm poses
Many trees fell down in town this May
Little children scurried to get out of the way
The shingles on houses flew through the air
And power outages were everywhere
The firemen and linemen got acquainted
But never noticed pretty houses are painted
The moon is full when the townies act crazy
And the air is thick when the sky is hazy
But I’ve got plans that will not be broken
And good ideas that are left unspoken
I sure hope the clouds aren’t coming my way
I’m betting on a bright and sunny day today

Man Named Morse

There once was a man named Morse
Who was really as strong as a horse
But when he feared a little mouse
Running madly around the house
His wife quickly filed for a divorce

Pretty Flowers

The flowers I see free my mind
Pretty flowers in a row, red and green
Pretty flowers in the field that I find
I’ll send to a friend in a dream
If I keep seeing tulips and roses
I know my garden will come
With pansies, nosegays and lilies
I know that I have a green thumb
I’ll even plant orchids to be droll
Pretty ones that run up a pole
Pretty flowers give power to my eyes
Giving me visions of a new, better time
Where magnolias and dahlias come to bloom
And birds of paradise are in every room
And I especially embrace yellow roses
They perk up the eyes, stir up our noses
Pretty flowers will exude love
The flowers I see free my mind
