Postmodern Blues

Postmodern Blues

Our bare-footed ancestors
Diligently traversed the grassy pathways
On rustling vegetation air walked along
Sunshine and rain in turn tiptoed
To bestow canopy of reverence
They wished us to watch
Soil sprouting bliss
Hills rolling down lush carpet
Pristine waters meandering around
The way they watched them doing
Tomorrow was all that mattered!
As tomorrow stands uncertain
In power games now a days
We better trudged up the silky ladder
In cross wind
We even surrogated the womb of sky
For lustful pearls to be incubated
Dead waters whimper in lonely furrows
Strings of air have spun a smoky mess
From dangling veil
That technology came forward with
To fix the gap
Both the worlds stood to benefit
You bargained your life style for gold
We are blinded watching you relish
Your abundance
You look anything but cool, honey
Nevertheless few of the have-nots tempted
To jump the fence
Only to sacrifice their reverie
Into sarcophagus fire
With their wives and children
As they failed to keep their hearts behind
You can hear the earth bloating
Like sacrificial goat
With throat at risk
Of pious killing
By future conquerors!

Separation

SEPARATION

	What more blunder
	A nasty small word
        Could commit
	Bidding you to depart
	Turned out to be forever
	As if it ensured
	Its connotation at summit
	I bade you Bye
        For at most a day!

No sign of any apparent bite
	But veins are contaminated
	With venom
        Forty-eight-hours-wide separation
	Utterly failed
	To subside your anger!

You snatched away all my words
This was my mistake, no doubts
	There were other ways
	To hint me upon, though
Rather a jerk of this magnitude!

I shall avail of this opportunity, though
	Ensuring to mend my ways
I take a vow never to peep ever
	In anybody's eyes
As I did into yours' my love!

Did You Call My Name

Did you call my name

There couldn't flourish green tufts in me
As they couldn't grow on cacti
Like scorched typhoon
In desert
I flew aimlessly.
The colorless wings of
My recurrent desires were not possible to
Be recognized
As that of images of fountains
Sprouting in the eyes of deer.
I was searching
For those helpless moments,
Burning in the fire of love,
Few words drenched
In the moist sensations
With tender touch of
Freshly bloomed petals.
I could hand on
Certain stranger words
Roaming like tourists
Beyond the boundary of connotation.
In my stilled sight
There fallen
Your impenetrable bag
Filled with rosy words
Like grains of pomegranate.
Whereas the world has
Shriveled behind me
Its doors and windows
Like limbs of tortoise,
A musical whisper
Was fumbling my back
On this unknown path of love
Did you call my name?

She's Not For Burning

She’s not for burning

Remnant of dried out pistils
If burnt
May fill nooks and corners
With their inimitable fragrance
But that doesn’t look aesthetic
Rather disparaging towards
Fascinating gift of nature;

History witnessed
Whether for genuine demand or
Otherwise fake societal dignity
Whatever businesses under the sun
We put our woman To
Like mad blacksmith
We blew the furnace
Until stars fly upward
Every time we found her glow

But for dowry
 Where ignominy to her
Parental family by in-laws
She owned and preferred
To be burnt to ashes
Alive without any essence

Tooth Brush

Tooth Brush

Tender bristles plenty in number
Against the shiny enamel
Like ears of millet plantation
Tossing heads
Against perfumed brush of swooning breeze
Allure tongues not lesser
Than vehement kisses
O! Tooth Brush!

Charmed equally
Miners and milliners
You are simply a principle
A scientific proposition
Easy to understand and easy to follow
You’ve traversed all the barriers
Whether caste, creed, faith or genders
Shaped the humanity
By taking out of suicidal tendency
Green twigs with candid smile on their
Countenance often whisper
Words of gratitude
And thankfulness chirruped around
O! Tooth Brush!

Unpredictable behavior of men
Berserk nature
And distressing time have left us
Rattled to the core.
New era of uncertainty
Has befallen on humanity
We no longer behave social
Neither have we believed in equality
When our branded outfit fails to work
We resort to verbal dominance.
We reposed to coughing like
Cart-harnessed horses.
For myriad reasons
Ranging from evolution to culture
Life taken to extremes
Are but common sights.
Wellness is being traded in the colonies
Where regular vegetable venders even don’t
Find it conducive to sit in.
Some of us are confined in comma
For more than a decade now.
We have requested our lawmakers
To formulate a statute
On rights to death
To plausibly justify the supremacy
Of faith upon humanity.
Our problems are grave
And time grim.
Poets must be excused.
It is modern world rendering
The poetry this difficult,
O! Tooth brush!

Time is also not ripe to doubt our pedagogy.
When it is felt necessary
We would need your proposition
Of universal acceptance
And anti suicidal instinct
Further reduced
To simple mathematical form,
So that it can be included in curriculum
For coming generations
To prepare psychologically
For radical surprises
O! Tooth Brush!

Sky

SKY

It slides down silently
From the naked branches of tree
Hanging bats of shadow
And creeps incessantly
In the barren alleys
When the hearsay of the sun crosses
The western sky
From the womb of the horizon
From bamboo grooves
From the meeting halls of villages
From running sewerage
From balconies
From bungalows
From palaces
From castles
There sprout numerous streamlets
Of stinking vices
And immense wings of darkness
Interweaving itself
Make a hefty nest
On the blunt conscience of population
Where numerous tongues of desire
Getting algebraically multiplied
Every day in comparison to the last
Put a garland of upheaval
In the neck of silence
And there accumulate
Thousands years of old benevolence
Heritage of customs
And worn out dreams
Sparkles attached with gut
And taking fire in its gall
Slowly and steadily
Sky begins to shut in hut

Cold Fire

Either your hints were not that elaborate
Or I failed to decipher
The hidden connotation
In either case
We both are looser
I have lost my sleep
And you, your glaze
When you are in the motherly
Lap of dark night
I measure distances among the stars
Nevertheless it is doubtful
Whether you too are sleeping
Or waking the night like me
Only difference is in the degree
Of restive state of inner mind
That must not be the case with you
Yesterday I could not wake up
Today you didn’t allow me to sleep
I am missing the warmth
Of tender touch
And you, the virile grip of ecstasy
How long would it prolong
Remains to be seen
One day, I am sure,
You will tire up of waiting fruitlessly
You are doing so curiously by now
For me waiting is other name of love
Which I shall have to do
Till I live up
What a painful thing is to love
You are bound to fall short
Enjoying the fleeting bliss
Amidst the long waiting
Unfortunately associated with it

Ecstasy

Afloat laid back
On the surging waves
In the ocean of love
‘O’ mermaids of ecstasy
Relish the bliss

In drapes of darkness
Like diamond studs
‘O’ fireflies of hope
Flap your jovial wings
Twinkle the fervency

White body of silk-cotton
Electric swords in bosom
‘O’ clouds of desire
Do rain in drops
Drench the facade of affection

Warm embrace around trellis
Amid tender foliage of caress
Pair of sparrows sharing beaks
‘O’ pistils of blush
Shower the fragrance
Flush the ambiance

Tolerance

Tolerance!

From your mid-air balcony
While responding to greetings
Spread over on land below,
Drizzling on your wrist/
The waving star studded bracelets,
I don’t know why-
Reminded me
Those rough hands of juvenile kids
Picking their livelihood
Out of municipality’s dust-bins?

On wounded shoulders,
Those you stood upon to plan
Strategies of despicable scams
And so uncompromisingly
Marketed rainbow of dreams,
Resting on them
Flags of your ‘intolerance’
On prohibited roads
I don’t grasp how-
Appeared to me
To be fluttering rags,
Begging before public places?

Cushions of the facilities,
You enjoyed without having
To work in tea gardens
And in offices of shopkeepers,
In anticipation of being snatched
By the faceless folks
Coughed out the fear
Of unwarranted intolerance!
You owe them something or what?

Love

What exactly has happened to her!
She has learned to be happy alone!
Though with moistened eyelids
Words soaked in mild pains
Miraculous flame in her eyes,
A flame of fire
Seemingly burning
Whole night along

When she bows down before shrine
Buds lying underneath get soaked,
Soaked in tears dropping incessantly
Out of her eyes
Not dew drops
Under the roof
Where do you get them?
However plane dresses she wears
She appears to be more alluring

But eyes are glowing
As if a flame is glowing
On her eyelids, her chicks
And her chin,
An untold beauty
As if a dream is hanging in eyes,

Flowers bloom in wild
Scatter hues near and wide
Suffuse fragrance all around
Fading then all wings
Die out, I don’t know,
In whose love!
