Sound the Drums

We have always been careful,
Avoiding conflict,
Shunning hostility,
Confronting squabble,
But none of us were prepared when the elders called:
“Sound the drums!”
Discord erupted,
No one was certain of what to do,
So we scrambled to the dusted weapons our ancestors had left for us,
“Those are for warriors!” a villager cried,
“Not for simple minded farmers and shepherds like us!”
But still we fought.
Through the battle,
The chaos,
The endeavor.
Some ran,
Some ran far,
Far away.
Many were lost,
Many forgotten,
And the ones who ran remembered,
When they called:
“Sound the drums.”

To the Kids On the Back of the Bus

To The Kids In The Back Of The Bus

To the kids in the back of the bus:
(With the warmest regards)
Stop screaming
Why do you feel the need to scream when every time you sit down?

Why do you feel the need,
the need to sit there and the need to yell and curse and spit and cry out crude and foul language that could ruin a thousand lives in a thousand instants?
Why do you do so?

To the kids in the back of the bus:
People matter, so be quiet about things your pea sized brains don't understand

To the kids in the back of the bus:
Your jokes, are not funny
Your lies, not satisfying

To the kids in the back of the bus:
What happened to respect?
What happened to kindness?
What happened?

To the kids in the back of the bus:
Why is it that every time you make fun of someone that they laugh?
Why do you laugh at the jokes that are meant to harm?
Why is it, that every time I say that you're wrong, you persecute me too?

Dear Society:
(With the highest regards)
Why have you taught us to be like the kids in the back of the bus?

Deceitful Words

The world is a garden,
It is filled with the overflowing fruit of life
Love,
Joy,
Peace,
Forbearance,
Kindness,
Goodness,
Faithfulness-
I do not see hatred in that,
So do not bring it into this garden
This garden is a safe haven, where weeds like you are not welcome.
Where the only thing that weeds like you are good for is
Destruction,
Deprivation,
Death.
Do not come into this garden,
And think that this safe haven is for your devastaition
I will weed you so fast,
That you won't be able to spread
Like the disease you are

Do not touch the flowers,
Do not touch the crops,
You will not touch the life in this garden,
It is too important.
If you touch this garden,
You will be weeded
You will be thrown away
And stomped on
Because if you are a weed in this garden, you are not welcome.

You are an apple,
Rotten apple,
Your appearance does not fool me,
For I know that your shine is farce
The red glow,
The little leaf
When I cut you open,
Get to know you,
Befriend you,
I find the rotted center of your heart
Decomposing into nothing.
Although you fool the rest of us,
I can see through your "perfect" appearance
Your "perfect" shape
Your "perfect" life

You are a white washed tomb
The way you shine,
The way you sparkle,
Clean,
Beautiful,
But inside there is only wreckage and ruin
Only the bones of the forgotten
Only the death of the miserable.
You are fooling no one
You are filled with harm-

You are human
Your heart is fooled to think that you can hurt someone I care about
Someone I love
Someone who loves me back
You try to be better than everyone
But you're not,
Not with your cruelty
Not with your rotting soul
'No one will notice'
No one has noticed
Except for me

So do not bring your pathetic immoral lies into this garden

One With the Rain

As water cascaded from the heavens,
I got caught in the downpour,
Like a fall of cleansing life,
I found myself going deeper into the storm,
Feeling my worries washing away,
Finding my troubles down the drain,
And for once,
It wasn't me,
No,
I was one with the rain.

Love Hurts

I never knew what they meant by: "love hurts" until it happened to me
Two months isn't that long but it felt like an eternity
Wasted
Gone
Thrown away by your selfish acts
I knew it couldn't be saved, when we didn't spend as much time together,
When I was only happiest when I kissed you goodbye,
When you refused to hold me when I was down-
To pick up my broken pieces
Scattered on the ground-
When all you did was look at me when my anxiety took over
When my depression took over-
When I took over
I knew that you didn't care anymore
Care enough anymore-
I mean I always told you that I needed to be loved,
That I needed to be understood,
That I needed you,
But when I gave you the hammer to tear down my walls,
You just watched and waited,
You just watched and waited and thought.
When I took my walls down piece by piece
Brick by brick,
You told me to keep going,
You didn't help.
You didn't lift a finger,
Even though there were so many layers of protection,
So many tiring layers
When I slowed down you yelled,
When I sped up,
You didn't care.
You never cared.
So now this is me
Not caring
Because now I understand why love hurts,
Now I understand because of you

Like the Rain

Your worries fall like the rain
Off your shoulder,
Out of your mind,
Into the sweet, soft, ground,
The rain is beauty,
And beauty describes you
You are one with the rain
Ridding me of my worries,
Of my troubles,
Gone like raindrops
My tears come with the rain,
But you-
You smile,
Knowing that it will wash away your worries,
Drown your troubles-
Like the rain, you are necessary
Necessary to life
You help things grow,
And sometimes flood our judgement
You, like the rain, can cry beside me,
You can go through,
Helping,
Caring,
Although, I am not a savior like the rain,
Like you,
No,
Dear,
You are everything,
Like the rain
