Treasured Moments

Treasure every moment
Every little thing
Every sight you see
Every word you sing
Because
One day
Hopefully
Far away
It will be
Just a memory
To recall
And re-see

Treasure every beautiful thing
Every bird in the tree
Every flower in bloom
Every joy you see
Because
You might
One day
Loose sight
And then that
Memory
So important
It will be

Parents Evening

Yesterday was parents evening
The last of the primary years
I wasn't sure what the focus would be
Didn't know what I wanted to hear

But then, waiting in the corridor
Seeing parents earnestly questioning
I realised the only thing I care about
Is how happy Rachel is feeling

So I scooted up to the desk
Nearly knocking the table over
I smiled at the teacher I know so well
We were definitely in this together

"So is she happy?" is what I asked
"Yes always" is what I was told
"She's helpful and friendly and cheery"
What else matters in this world?

Of course I heard all the levels
And the progress and points to improve
But I'd heard in the first two minutes
All I needed to feel well soothed

At the end of the figures
And all the necessary stuff
I asked if there was anything I could do
"No, you do more than enough"

So we laughed about parents evening
Her teacher and I as a team
And rather than frowns as I left
I gave Rachel a massive grin

"You're amazing" was what I told her
"Working hard and are happy to boot,
I'm so proud of all you are doing"
That's all I want her to know as the truth

To Make Me Cake

This is a little story
About friendship ultimate
This friend knew my love of cake
But understood my need for health
She saw that I was trying
To be oh so very good
And she went above
And beyond
To do the best
She could
To make me cake
My diet plan was stringent
No dairy or gluten at all
No sugar, except maple or honey
No sweetener, not even small
She scoured all over the internet
No corner left unsearched
And she found a promising recipe
But it ended up tasting like earth
Did she give up trying
No, she wouldn't give in
She found another recipe
Which also went in the bin
But on her third attempt
By which point any one else would have stopped
She found a complete success
And look at what I got
Brownies oh so yummy
Soft and gooey too
I never guessed what they're made of
And I bet you won't do too
Black beans, yes black beans
And maple syrup to be sweet
Cocoa powder for chocolate
And oats go in the mix
A few other small ingredients
But what really goes beyond
Is the chocolate chips from America
Of my friend I'm very fond
This is a little story
About friendship so complete
She made me these yummy brownies
Because she's so fabulously sweet.

Today means being
Really silly

Really silly
Getting Dressed Silently
Dad surprise

Make Rachel giggle

Cat In a Hat World Book Day

the year is the last
the wardrobe is bare
so this world book day
I had nothing to share

I sat down with mum
we sat there, we two
I asked for ideas
she had quite a few

but all her ideas
were wrong or too tricky
so I sat and I thought
I might have been picky

Then bump! An idea
I knew just what to do
I went to the book shelf
And pulled down a few
I found just the one
The one above all
The one full of rhyme
and humour galore

This is the book
This is the one
This is my character
This has to be done

I gathered some paper
Just red and white
I took it to mum
It gave her a fright

Really? she asked
That will be great
She might not have thought that
When working so late
On the hat oh so tall
and the bow oh so large
But I think you'll agree
without any charge
that the effort was worth it
my mum and me
we got it together
do you agree?

so today in year 6
the last dressing up
for this world book day
I am no pup
I'm a cat in the hat
Of that you can see
I might not win the prize
But it's made me happy

Oh and by the way
This poem of mine
It's inspired by Seuss
And it's mum's, not mine
