Memory Quilt

Memory Quilt “ For Auction contest “

Welcome all to today’s prestige event
Let us start the day ladies and gentlefolk
We have this wonderful memory quilt
For your deliberation and delectation today
It was made by two elderly spinster sisters
When they decided to do this quilt they decided a pattern
And they thought they would use pieces from dresses
The one they wore in their younger years
There are pieces from a day dresses, morning, and evening
Each one holding a special memory for them both
As they had worn them to many events when young
Each section of cloth has been cut very precise and sew with loving care
A selection of shapes are involved in this,
The principle ones, lozenge and triangle shape to form the main squares
This then makes up the size large enough to be used on the bed
They embellished it with heart and circles and lovely flowers
These being the decorations from the dresses themselves
This work took the sister six years to lovingly to complete
And it is all hand stitched onto a pale blue linen cloth to hold it complete
This wonderful piece comes with a description of each dress
Also on which occasion it was worn by either of them
It became an item beyond price to them when it was finished
I hope ladies and gentlemen that this will give some idea
Of the memories, work and heart ache involved
In the making of this superb memory quilt
I know that this quilt will reach a very high price today
Myself I would place a bid of fifteen thousand
But it will not be enough I fear

Age of Ten

AGE OF TEN

Way back then when I was ten
Things were so very different then
I wrote with ink in a fountain pen
Whenever we could we would build a den
And I loved to help my dad in the garden

Way back then when I was ten
I walked to school and was never late
Always ate everything on my dinner plate
Played hop scotch by the garden gate
And was not allowed to go to bed late

Way back then when I was ten
No television colours only black and white
Real Christmas trees and a glass fairy light
We all had a different size of trike
Then I got my first two wheeled bike

Way back then when I was ten
We had so much freedom to roam
But must be in for meals at home
Only a phone boxes with a dial phone
And no phone in many a home

Way back then when I was ten
Latest craze was roller skates
And hula hoop with your mates
Skipping ropes and Meccano gates
But lots of fun with wooden crates

Way back then when I was ten
Coins were in pounds shillings and pence
Mothers talked over the garden fence
Scooters that you could make go at such a pace
Noisy steam trains that always seem to race

Way back then when I was ten
With friends you played out doors
Toys for your imagination scatted on the floor
Skipping ropes, skates and many things more
Sledges of wood, a dolls house with opening doors

Way back then when I was ten
Fun was had with blackboard and chalk
Clay dolls that you could walk
And new plastic ones that wouldn’t talk
Then babies came by way of the Stork UNSUPPORTED CODE

Keep Hoping

Keep Hoping

Keeping time from going
From all those worries
That have been and gone
Keeping me company for a long time
Hearing the tide come and go

Weighed down by my father
Hoping for the arms of mother
But it gets to me sooner rather than later
Looking back to those years
No escape from all that has been

But I’ll keep holding on to hope
Keep holding, keep holding, keep holding on,

Keeping my tears at bay
As nothing here has grown or changed
Wasted all those emotions and tears
And nothing has changed for good
It seems as nothing ever could

But I’ll keep holding on to hope
Keep holding, keep holding, keep holding on,
That’s all I have to hold on to
It will get better, so I will keep hoping

Spring Flowers Abound

SPRING FLOWERS ABOUND

A time of year we love the best is spring, a time for new beginnings
Bringing us bright new flowers like the Buttercup to life
Cowslip are another delight along the verge as we drive
Daffodils are abound now in each new day
Every time we walk in the gardens and countryside
Forsythia being one of the many yellow flowering spring shrubs
Giving us such a lift, under planted with the Gentiana blue
Hellebore’s and Snowdrops strive to be the first to show
Iris is another, it’s very hard to know which will come first
Just thinking of all the ones we will still see again this spring
Knowing Hyacinths, Primrose and Chinodoxo with their perfumes to come
Loving the nice warm weather that is developing the others to follow
Many a blue Muscari will bloom right now planted amongst
Narcissus to make a beautiful colourful spring display
Often we cannot wait for Ornithogalum or the first Daffodil to poke its head
Pushing up amongst the large leaves of the Pulmonaria
Quite an exceptional display is had this way
Really the senses are in for many a delight to come
Scilla and the Bluebell rarely disappoint in their spring display
This is an ever growing and changing at this time of year
Usually we will see Daffs, Crocus and Violas, but there are very many more
Valerian is the unusual flower that some will have
Wisteria is one we don’t often think of appearing in the spring
Xceptional displays can appear though and take us by surprise
You will often wonder whether it was done by people or nature
Zest for life is good at this pleasant time of year is very clear

Bouquet of Flowers

BOUQUET OF FLOWERS

How wonderful the bouquet of flowers
In the Garden of Eden here on earth
A never changing and never ending

Colours so beautiful and so varied
Vibrant and pastel rainbows of delight
How wonderful the bouquet of flowers

Many perfumes for the senses of ours
That we would not wish to change at all
A never changing and never ending

The ones we love so from the countryside
And many we see at the flower shows
How wonderful the bouquet of flowers

Many come into fashion for a while
While others disappear for many years
A never changing and never ending

May this be for all time for ever more
We would not wish to be without them
How wonderful the bouquet of flowers
A never changing and never ending

The Four Seasons

THE FOUR SEASONS

Spring is the season that many love best
Of things to come and thoughts of the worst gone
With many an old favourite plant reappearing now
And a great deal to ponder over and to select, perhaps to buy
A new freshness in the air for all to feel and enjoy

Summer we find the heat that’s graved by all
Delicious smells of the wood smoke of the barbeque
Competes with the fragrance of the most beautiful flowers
Colours so varied in the garden, flags, awning’s and chairs
What such a delight to sight and senses we have

In autumn the colour palate changes again
To gold, red and brown and the many stages in between
A delight to the artistic eye, along with beautiful a sky
Evenings grow cooler and we wish they would not
And though we know it’s about to change we would rather it not

Winter comes in with quite a shock, rain and wind and many a gale
It grows so much colder, so snuggle around the fire under the comfy blanket
Roasting ourselves and toasting the crumpets for our tea
But the one bright and happy thing in this season is Christmas
Brining many a dreamy smile and happy laugh in this blustery time of year

The Car of Your Dreams

THE CAR OF YOUR DREAMS
Would you, could you, have a car
And love it so very much from afar
Give it a name of its very own
Will it be green, yellow or brown

We must learn about its upkeep
And do the maintenance very cheap
Wash it, polish it, and change the oil
Oh how we must really toil

Do we need a car that’s big or small
Is it for people short or tall
Are the seats to be cloth or leather
Could we drive it in any weather

Whatever we have we must take care
To watch out for the wear and tear
And keep it in very good repair
So we never have to despair

Then we can go where we like
    Even take the children’s trike
Could you love that beautiful car
That you would worship from afar

Now you have chosen the one for you
A Mazda’s the one, all glowing and new
To care for and enjoy foe years
And no more cares, woe’s or tears

Ho,Ho,Ho Merry Christmas

Ho, ho, ho Merry Christmas

Ho, ho, ho its Christmas time again
When the little Elves are working hard
To make and mend the Toys for all the children
Because we love this happy time of year
And so we all will gather to set the tree in place
Too decorate it all over with things old and new

Whilst others hang the Trimming and balloons so high
With music in the background for us to enjoy
The traditional and popular ones so we can sing
Like Jingle Bells and Deck the Halls and many more
Whilst wishing this year for that Winter Wonderland

So we can have out the old family Sled
And hear those lovely Sleigh Bells tinkle again
Then each one and all can again be children
Building Frosty the Snowman in their gardens
While we are waiting for that special day to arrive

When Santa Claus will come down the chimney
Bringing many presents and goodies to eat
Sometimes even an extra treat for all
But we must not forget to say thank you of course
With the tasty treats for him and his Reindeer

Yellow Flower

Yellow Flower

Yellow is the flower of rape seed plant
And oh how I do detest its awful smell
Though the fields are very pretty in its glow
Never can you evade that terrible smelly plant
