What Makes For a Funny Kid

Kid's Poetry Contest

What Makes for a Funny Kid

It’s not just the smile that I enjoy
As he plays with his favorite toy
I watch him try to spin a top
Ice cream to the floor goes plop

He piles so much into his day
So much to do, hooray, hooray
He’s funny when he plays outside
Chases butterflies on the glide

The funniest thing for me to see
He tries to climb up in a tree
Rolling down a hill is fun
No rain today thanks to the sun

At the end of each and every day
Outside is where he wants to stay
Mom calls him in with a ringing bell
Read him a story he’ll sleep quite well

A Solitary Leaf

?

running through its veins

life-giving sap is flowing

reaching tender leaves

Poetry Revenge

I’ve finally reached my limit My anger’s now - over the top It saddens me that you don’t care You’ve found a way, my words to stop What makes my words less important You think yourself the answer man You know I’m onto your agenda A fire you feel you must fan Find some other fish to fry Pack your gear and go away For damage done to a poet’s heart You’ve insulted me the last time today Let me tell you, you’ve met your match Yes we could have worked together You never gave me any thought And now its sealed forever Writing stories is your game I don’t hold that against you at all You see telling a story is my goal too So today I had you against your own wall Your jealousy told you - you were special
