Speck

People walk in and out,
Through me, it seems,
My presence barely sensed.
I coil around the pain,
And recoiling I make my way out,
Heaving relief into the dark.
Around me, night crawls about like a baby,
The moon, with arms outstretched,
Cradles me gently, lovingly.
And feeling a large crack in the universe
I am swallowed whole
And taken home.

Supermarket Check-Out

Had she looked back at me
Even for just a second ...
Our encounter might have been the stuff of tabloid frenzy.
But she left quickly a coffee in one hand,
A shopping bag in the other,
And I waited for my turn next in line.

Poof

That childhood faith, vehemently spirited,
Difficult to bend, impossible to tame.
That still-cradled heart, curiously open,
Eschewing fear, shunning struggle,
Accepting of each coming day.
The journey so hazardous.
Now a cold-forged and unyielding heart
Beats out each agonizing minute.
Jared by indolence and disappointment,
Vision unrecognizably scarred.
The journey so quickly done.
Needing to chance upon that child again
To lightly touch the angel's brow.

She

Preposterous, I am not a junk-food addict!
The recipe was good;
The presentation was great;
The final dish, however, was disappointing.
It could have used a teaspoon full of warmth
And maybe a dash of humor.
A crowd pleaser, at first, to be sure,
But not worth the effort.

Lean On Me

I am all tuned up...
...rest upon my shoulders.

A sweet melody presents a lyric...
...an electric duet is stronger.

Singles never come easy...
...I'd rather arrange chords in your key.

Lean on Me.
