The Next Giant Leap

It’s like a thousand fists punching you in the back,
shooting you towards the stars and away from the only home you’ve ever known.

And you’ll sit in silence as you watch it get smaller and smaller in the window,
Before it disappears completely, enveloped by the dark.

But then, the stars arrive in all their majesty.
Like you’ve never seen them before; so many of them.

You’ll sit silence, and you’ll get to work,
Working to get you to where you are going, so very far away from home.

It’s going to be beautiful,
Mountain ranges as far as the eye can see, Sunsets every night.

And when you come home in a ball of flames, We’ll be waiting,
With fireworks and champagne, we’ll be waiting.

And when you stand under the night sky again, Looking up to where you once where,
You’ll always know that it was you who took the first steps on Mars.

A Letter of Love

You felt it when you sent your first love letter,
you loved it when you got your first one back.
You smiled when you read that he loved you,
you longed to express that love back.

You laugh at the misspelt words,
and take comfort in his hidden mistakes.
His unsteady writing runs through you,
like your heartbeat, it trembles and shakes.

Your eyes swell at the sight of his name,
as you know the close is near.
You rush back to where he said he loved you,
careful not to smudge with a tear.

You smile when you read it again,
with your thumb caressing his name.
You long over every last word this time,
still knowing that you'll read it again.

Infinity of One

A solemn palace in a starry desert,
Where men live fearless and trees breathe.
A paradim of excellence, a bowl of dirt,
The holder of life, taken by human theives.

A temple for kings, a palace for sinners,
This ball of blue, the globe of all definition.
Bathed in light, lost in the dark,
Avoid of love, and all recognition.

Two Short Days Gone Quickly By

Here’s to lights out, to pens down,
To checking out.

Here's to Friday.

To the first pat on a back, kiss of a cheek
And clink of a glass.

To bars, beaches, basements, the corner shop,
And dining at dawn with a pocketful of change.

Here’s to letting clothes lie where clothes fall.

Here’s to rising when the sun does,
and sleeping till it sets.

To the coffee thirsty, the work hungry
and hashtag no filter.

Here’s to an adventure on the horizon,
And feet resting on a dashboard.

Here’s to life, to love, to laughter,
To friends made and friends lost.
Here’s to two short days gone quickly by.

Here's to the weekend.

Imaginary Romance

Eye contact,
On a train.
Oh shit,
It happened again.

When the Road Calls, Peddle

The road is ready, the stages are set,
Hungry for your blood, your tears and your sweat.

Coiled out before you, a snake lying in wait.
Don’t fear its teeth, this is your road to dictate.

The scenery changes. A landscape unknown.
Miles are eaten. Legs grow sore to the bone.

Yet the battle goes on, through rain and through climb.
This is a trail of you. A trial of the road. A trial of time.

The end is near. Your heart starts to pace,
Vying to be champion of the climb, sprint and race.

The pack falls behind. There is nowhere to hide,
But this is what you live for. You were born to ride.

The Thought That Counts

I sat down,
To write you a poem,
But the thought of you,
Distracted me.

The Hour Is An Early One,

The hour is an early one,
I sit at my desk and I work.

Potential is in my they say,
but why can't I get it to come out?

Dream Time Is Over

Light hues washed over her.
Visions of a forgotten lover,
In a land of unrembrance.
A scene stuck in time.

She was dreaming.

Her cavern of possibility,
Where electricity flows,
And thoughts are written in stone,
Yet wiped away with dawn.

She was waking.

Distant memories flooded over her.
But with every passing second,
Her memories became less and less distant.
Now, so real.

Reality kicked in.

An alarm sounded.
A light flicked on.
And with that,
She rose.

Her time for dreaming was over.
