The Heart of a Solder

A soldier is a warrior,
Who puts his country, his beliefs, or his duty
Before himself.
And, should he be recognized,
He will receive great honor and recognition.

Just wearing his uniform,
Fills those who behold him with respect.
And he will be revered.

A soldier comes back a changed man.
Stronger, with better abs and biceps,
And with a broken heart.
But he will be revered.

Not those who broke his heart.
Because a soldier will be revered
For being a heroic survivor.
Unless he isn’t.
Unless he is dead.
And that leaves those who are revered with broken hearts.
And those without the broken hearts have no hearts at all.

This Is Not a Paradox

This is a poem to tell you what poetry must be,
A how-to-write-a-poem guidebook for you, by me.

A poem must have both rhythm and rhyme,
And be happy and jumpy and apply to the time.

Have lots of imagery! Use simile and metaphor,
With “like” and “as”, your poem will have color.

Please don’t use any prose in your poems, because it often confuses the reader, and then no-one will like or appreciate your writing.

A poem mustn’t be controversial or confusing,
But straight forward- write the literary devises you are using!

If your poem is read and the reader is unsure,
Or confused as to its meaning, your poem is a failure!

It cannot be bias, or from a specific point of view,
Otherwise no-one will like your poem, other than you!

The easier and simpler your poem is read,
The better it will be- that’s what every teacher said!

Regardless of your poem, make sure you never,
No matter what you’re writing, don’t use sarcasm, not ever!

I'M the Dreamer

I'm a fairy,
it i want to be...
and i didn't ask you if you thought i was, or if you agree with what i am...
you're a loose leaf paper, and you don't see me writing!

i'm a song,
and i and quite catchy.
please don't sing along, i have no need for your tone deaf... is that a singing voice?

i actually AM the boss of you,
for you see, in this situation, I am the poet, and you are merely a faceless character in my rant called poetry.

and even if that weren't the case, i'd still be in charge,
because because i am the dreamer, and the future belongs to me.

you are not the dreamer. don't try to protest. you are the loose leaf paper, and, trust me, no ones going to write on you.
i might. but you won't be able to do anything about it (your tone deaf voice won't help).

because i said so.
and i'm the dreamer.
and i'm the poet.
and this is my rant called poetry.

I'M Quite Frustrated

the pen is empty
and i try to write
but nothing comes out try as i might.

i've been waiting for forever,
and it says its on its way,
but i wonder if i can wait for forever another day.

the page is loading,
the signal goes around,
its taking so long i'm losing sight of which way i'm bound.

i'm out of ideas,
and poetry turns out crappy,
but this is all i can do than writing verse too sappy.

its embarrassing and i'm hesitant,
to press the submit key,
but its how i'm feeling, its a sucky representation of me.

You Have the Option

When a person find something funny, or amusing, or relatable,
They laugh.
Or giggle, chuckle, exhale, or snort.
And their heart fills with happiness, and feels light and joyous.
When a person finds something painful, or hurtful, or hard,
They cry.
Or sob, bawl, tear, or snort.
And their heart fills will sorrow, and gets heavy and hard to hold.
We can either laugh until their sides hurt, or cry until our eyes are wide and puffy.
I think I'd rather laugh.
It's more attractive. And more attracting. And more enjoyable,
Than puffy eyes and a swollen heart.
