It came to me one night, a dream
An idea, a thought, a better way
Is this all there is, this life I have
To wake and live another day

Exist just like a cloud, or shrub
To eat and sleep, work and play
Go here and there, do this, do that
Wait for Friday, bills to pay

The hairs are counted on our heads
Our bones will see decay
But the spirit will live on
Past when we’re old and grey

A plan, a purpose, his promises pure
I trust his word and pray
I know that my Redeemer lives
The truth, the life, the way

Missed Opportunity

The first time that I saw you
You passed me by that day
I knew I wanted to talk to you
But I didn’t know what to say
So I turned around and walked a step;
Or two, I still forget
But I remember you my love
The one I never met

I could have seized the moment
“Carpe Diem,” they would say
Walk on over, say “Hello”
Then my mind just went astray
I woulda, coulda, shoulda
Now I have this one regret
I missed my one and only chance
For the one I never met

You lay in the empty space of
My lonely queen size bed
You care for our imaginary children
Tuck them in and keep them fed
You give me all the love I need
I take all that I can get
My love, there’s still this emptiness
You’re the one I never met

I’d love to love the one I dream of
I’m forever in your debt
You wake me with your morning lips
From the dreams that I forget
And if I had a second chance
I know I won’t regret
The first time that I talked to you
The You I never met

Ode To a Cougar

Beautiful woman by my side
Soul and body coincide
I love you way too much sometimes
Or perhaps it's not enough

Back when you were my blushing bride
We both were sorely terrified
The kids, the house and minivan
The years flew by in a flash

Then came the day when you walked out
For another your love poured out
Shelter elsewhere you would seek
In the arms of a younger man

I rise up early in my bed
Music playing in my head
What was the tune you used to sing?
So sweetly to my ears

"I would never love another
'Cuz you're the Dad and I'm the Mother"
But your heart was turned astray
By the face of a younger man

For Me

I ponder his redeeming love
His arms spread wide for me
How can it be that he would die?
To set this prisoner free

If I had been the only one
His mercy would I find
A crown of thorns upon his brow
Crucifixion was assigned

Nails driven one by one
His feet and then his hands
“It is finished” as he breathed his last
His body gave up its demands

Then on day three an open grave
His linen left behind
“He is not here, he is alive
In here you will not find”

“Jesus, our Messiah,
He is risen from the dead,
Go and tell the world until
the message is widespread”

Let’s set our minds on things above,
Not things upon this earth
Tell everyone you meet each day
Of your spiritual rebirth
