I Am of a Terrible Nature

i am
of a
terrible nature
callous
unforgiving
never satisfied
i am
of a
terrible nature
discontent
unruly
an idealist
i am
of a
terrible nature
the world
cannot exist
without me

Bobby Pin Birds

the ground is littered with bobby pin birds
shot from your fingers like lightning
straight at my chest
i'm hit! god help me i'm going down
falling ever faster into the sea of green
your eyes, your eyes, your eyes
falling into this world of locked cars and christmas lights
spooky chains and hangovers
promises kept and a place i belong
and i cannot stop myself
i put my arms out to slow the decent
prolong the impact
but they find nothing but you
and i'm hit once again
steel fingers to my side that scream
"i love you"
and i know it's true
i never want to remember life without you by my side

Flexibility

i used to think i wasn't flexible
but i'm beginning to see
that i am bending over backwards
just to placate you
my spine is in ruins
my muscles have all torn
i sit here in front of you as nothing more
than a useless pile of thoughts and emotions
what else do you want from me?
was my body not enough?
here is my heart
my soul
take them
they're yours
i can only bend so far
i can only stretch so much
until i break
and i have broken
i have broken

Shadows of Nonexistence

i bite my tongue until i feel
myself running over my teeth
all steel and ice water
unfeeling and calm
where the hell has all the love gone?
where is the warmth i used to cherish?
where is the truth i used to hold?
my god, what have i become?
i wonder if you still recognize me
with this mockery of a mask
tattered paper mache hanging in strips from an invisible face
i am but a shadow of wells' creation
irony, sweet irony
to be nothing more than a shadow
of nonexistence

Questions of Purpose

Alas poor consciousness, I knew thee well.
You of a wonderful nature-
Of passion and fury,
You of desperate desires-
Of anguish and ecstasy.
What has become of you?
Have you lost your fire-
That incarnadine glow from within?
Though it was certain to falter
It did produce a lovely light.
Alas poor consciousness, I knew thee well.
It pains me to see you now,
Cold and callous.
A chambered nautilus that has long since been abandoned.
I held such fond memories of our time together,
Yet, as you are, withered and dying
I fear the curtain has been drawn
On our period of deliberate living.
Alas poor consciousness, I knew thee well.
Few novelties can be afforded,
With one as literal as you have become,
So I shall expend no more energy than is necessary.
No longer are you the image of a Man who farms,
But that of a lifeless farmer.
Grant yourself the luxury of kneeling
Next to the stream we did so cherish
And gaze at what you have become.

Infinity Twice Over

Two minutes
Two lifetimes
Inifnity, twice over
A star falls
A plane crashes
"It's all the same," she says
My God
If I could only see the world through those eyes
Emerald tinted and sincere
I am awe struck
"It's all the same," she says
"Classic or cliche"
I've learned so much
In two minutes
Two lifetimes
Infinity twice over
It's all the same...
