The Firefly

Is she a star of heaven?
  From her moonlit dwelling fallen,
Behold her!! The indomitable spark,
Defier of the darkness so stark.
Tell me the source of her light divine,
Which enslaves my mind like the strongest wine,
The flowers have retreated afar,
Yet she glides on unhindered and flickering,
As if resigned to her love's beckoning,
   Oh! Lend me your light,
I am lost in the windy night,
   Oh! Guide me on,
Obscure is my vision and unknown my destination.

My Night Is Gone

Oh! I hear the bells toll again,
The morning birds awaken,
And my night is gone!!
Oh! let me sleep on,
The moon has lost her struggle,
Against the sun's pitiless dazzle,
The stars like fallen warriors,
Are interred without honours,
The nightingale's soporific melody,
Is drowned in the noise of anarchy,
The ambience so cool and pure,
Has turned too sweltry to endure,
I keep my eyes shut tight,
For in them I retain a slice of night.

What Kept Me Going

Groping in the cavern,
I was badly in need of a lantern,
Bereft of vision,
I was without a mission,
A bat had battered on my hat,
And on my face had swat,
On many a hurdle did I stumble,
But what kept me going,
Were the fireflies of love
Which your heart had been ceaselessly spouting.
