Snow Ponies

Paint ponies in the snow
delicate dusting across their backs
like confectioner sugar
sifted
so fine... and
puffy, light, white powder
laying on the land..
Oh how we love
our gentle
Arizona winters!

Mother-Made Moments

mother-made moments should be soft and squishy
not filled with terror or just plain icky

mother-made moments should comfort and soothe
not leave you feeling like you've been royally screwed
they are supposed to feel like super softie towels
freshly out from the dryer
or like a kite on a breezy day
effortlessly flying higher and higher

mother-made moments should be strong as a boulder
full of helping-hands-up you'll remember when
you are older

mother-made moments should wipe away the tears
address, then erase all your fears
with lovey-dovey hugs
and mugs
of freshly made hot coco
with the mini marshy-mellows floating on top

mother-made moments should leave you feeling wonderfully wise
squaring off your shoulders as you
look at people directly in their eyes
they should give the gift of loving you just where you are
saying your apple-cheeks and eyes are brighter
and prettier than all of the stars

mother-made moments should always be truly for your best
should be there always whenever you need a rest
offering wise counsel
and a pencil to take notes with

mother-made moments when scooped up altogether
should be a big fluffy bundle of love
waterproof in any kind of weather
a lifetime legacy celebration of truth
that there is nothing
and no one
she loves more
than you

that's what mother-made moments should be

Baking Bad

This plate of holiday baking you did bring by
was really kind
I unzipped the zip lock
to get inside
cookies and brownies
and bread of banana
but what was a surprise especially so
was to discover you know
I am
a lover
of corner cut smaller pieces
and cookies of extra crunch
and the ends of the breads
sometimes quite dry
are okay too

happy holidays as well to you!

War Horror

damp mold smell of the earth
slaves of destruction some seven thousand strong
made into moles
tunnels miles, miles long
nine hundred each month on the
backs beaten on to win a war
miles above on the land...
darkness disrupted by dim, flickering lights
death struts unceasingly below
as above
the madness of men
staged
with no intermissions..
cries and moans struck by
sharp shouts and
drilling machines scream
excrement and urine mix
with blood and sweat
and choking dust with
bits of sliver-sharp shards
flying off
slicing into skin
layer upon layer levels of concrete
shelves manned under the hands of evil..
rockets slowly rolling into place..
menacing, sharp nosed tubes to shoot
into the heavens then
turn down and
scream towards towns..
no warning..
no hiding..
hits bursting, busting, disintegrating flesh
on what was only moments before
just a soft, sunny, average day

Christmas Glow, Glow, Gone

Hang onto the hem of this Christmas day
it goes past so fast
and is now
a whole 'nother year away

This day of Christmas celebration is
winding down
the golden, honey sun has traversed
the sky, heading
horizon wise...
bellies are full,
presents all disclosed and
flashy merriment loud
and laughy, turns now
to soft-glow candles lit,
hugs and easy chairs,
soft smiles and television
parade and
ice skating
specials!

The warmth, the love, the mistletoe..
the food, the family, the fun
too soon do go!
The twinkly lights, presents and tree
and not one car on the road as far
as I can see!
No siren sounds, no horns do blow
just soft-sparkle Christmas lights
reflected off the snow.....
had so much fun,
I just hate to see it go!

Dove Love

sixteen sometimes twenty-three
sweet little brown-grey bud size
doves pressed together side by side
along the morning roof line

one next to the other up to the peak
then one next to the other down
the other
side

sweetly and silently waiting for
the sun to break past the dawn
warming their feathers and little
birdy bodies

waiting for me to bring out the
breakfast banquet of seeds 'n such
I think we all smile together
at one
another

Madmad Love

Oh, I was so mad over you
just crazy in love
was that what it was?
should love make you mad?
make you crazy?

there was no crime I wouldn't commit
to keep it easier for you to stay
than leave
or quit me

I left myself somewhere way in the back
covered in dust, used and forgotten
and played out to you someone
I'd hate if I met

it was a converge of forces
perfect in their destruction
lost, loser girl with cash and a vice
slammed back to right where she did start

no one welcomed her return and
gossip hummed over the lines
like angry bees
in the hive

and he...
oh, he....
well, he
was a rock star in a
bad, bland rock band something
so exciting caught me up
in a sticky
delicious
mess!

and funny!
oh, so, funny...
and it felt so, so, so good
to remember a laugh again
it was a dream tied up in
a nightmare box
an amazing
maze

I kept my eyes so tightly closed
and dared hardly breathe and
felt this avalanche of moments
a monumental mudslide slashing and
crashing

blinded and choking it was suddenly,
suddenly, all silent...
my chest compressed
to the back of,
well, to the back of my....
of, my, spine.....
and in an instant
you were gone
2000 miles away with just a wave

my world
from funny terror
to the empty sound of my
own silent
screams
silent.....
screams

pondering panic
no!
not again.....
tossed out....
run over....
doors slamming at midnight
a night so dark I felt dipped
into
a
well
of
old ink....

500 or more days blasted
into a dusty past
where I came face
to
face,
with...myself

oh.....
I was so..
so...mad
over you

Tale of Woe

Their death day that came
far too soon
did freeze their love amidst full bloom

Never would angry words
ring out
no regrets brought about

Nothing to say sorry fors and
no hot tears shed behind
closed
doors

Nothing to regret..
Nothing to wish to forget..

Nothing hurt..
Nothing cursed..

Untouched, unviolated, preserved
the sickness of death doth cured
only simple, sweet, pure love
naïve and precious like a
newborn
dove

Two lives taken just as they started
no time for hearts to break
or
harden

A smart life lesson for us all
for we know not,
just when death will call

And loving fully and with all our best
means no matter what,
we'll find easy rest

just like Romeo and his
Juliet

Discounted

This book I bought today
about great poets of the modern way
with its penciled price cornered at
top of the first page

Only 2 dollars and looking pretty near to brand new
with glossy thick pages heavy and oversized
unbroken spine
photos taken in black and white
of these complicated masters and mistresses
of tormented prose
exposing darkness and secrets never shared before
leaning up against a closed door while
thin, swirled smoke line trail upward
I can almost see it rising and guiding
my eyes over their faces
pensive and pained from the stories of life
they'd attained

I contemplate their expressions and stances
noticing the glances
up and to the left
or just out into spaces
very few look back at me
that's no matter for there is nothing there to see
birth and death dates noted

Serious somewhat sorrowful stares
the eyes and outfits poet writers wear
something inside obviously intangible
streaks past and lingers there
something dividing and cutting them apart
from CEOs and politicians lurking in business liars

And I wonder someday will someone read words
of my stumble from grace
preceding page photo of my now dead face
in a book near new
with a penciled price of just one dime?!

Piggies

All these little pale pink piggies
prancing through their straw floored pen
sniffing and snorting
with little smiles under their snouts!
Tufted, tiny tails bouncing in the air!
Sharp, dark, twinkle eyes!
Oh, can I love bacon looking
at these wee faces?!

Book: Reflection on the Important Things
