The Illusion of Magic

It's the empty spaces
That we long to fill
It's our lifelong dreams
Lying unfulfilled

The apathy takes hold
The caring ceases
A semblance of a normal life
Lies at our feet in pieces

When the magic no longer amazes
And charm has all but died
Nothing left to hold onto but hope
And give it another try

You'Ll Never Walk Alone

Dusty streets
Beneath your feet
World on your shoulders
Don't accept defeat

As long as I am here
You'll never need to fear
Walk with your head held high
Don't let life pass you by

I'll always stand
By your side
Don't ever lose
Your healthy sense of pride

Don't ever forget
While we're old and grown
As long as I am here
You'll never walk alone

When Winter Fell Upon Our Graves

When winter fell upon our graves

The light of the moon illuminated our paths

To the cold ground we were no longer slaves.

Flowing through the air in waves

We could finally read our epitaphs

When winter fell upon our graves;

And the snow made its way across the plains

As we felt the cold winds against our backs

To the cold ground we were no longer slaves.

Sunlight breaks through as nighttime fades

But doesn't show our tracks

When winter fell upon our graves.

No longer bound by our faiths

Freed from our traps

To the cold ground we were no longer slaves.

Acting out our final roles in our eternal plays

Was it all a dream? Perhaps.

When winter fell upon our graves

To the cold ground we were no longer slaves.

Dreams Take Flight

And now my dreams
Have fallen
From the stratosphere
Of your mind

Only to take flight
On the wings
Of the unforeseen

These dreams are unreal
This life is surreal
What is it like to feel

After the numbness sets in

Hard Times In the Big City

Love
When it hits you like a ton of bricks
Wham!

You're down for the count
1.2.3...
You're up!

Your eyes rise to the sky
only to catch a falling star
for a split second

Whoosh!
Then it's gone

You walk away
beat
then you see your old buddy Jack
"Jack!"
you shout out
and he shouts back too

You go to the local coffee shop
only to find what you ran away
from

You look to your left
and in the corner
with his sometimes girlfriend
is a young punk
all dressed in black

They sit and shoot the breeze
about nothing at all
or even in particular

You walk further
and chat with the owner
about old times and good coffee

You proceed to sit
on the ragged and torn old couch
that reminds you of a couch
your parents once had back when
Kool & The Gang were cool
and whenever you heard
Earth, Wind, & Fire
it really was a celebration

Your old buddy Jack
sits along side of you
and you talk of good times
and lost loves
you'll never see again

Then all of a sudden
Whoosh!!!!
It hits your ear like a frieght train
The cool sounds of Miles Davis
trump-trump-trumpeting
like no one else can

and then you think
"You know Jack, he sounds like I feel"
and you move on to talk about
the emotion and soul of jazz

As you sip your last sip of
coffee you remember what you
were looking for
Love

That funny and mysterious thing
that everyone longs for but
few truly have

So you hit the back streets
that are all but unfamiliar to
you as a kid

and you keep searching....

You keep searching
for that crazy thing
called love

But the question remains
"Did you find it Jack?"

Note From the Underground

Music
Soothing our souls
Playing inside our heads
Putting all of our fears to rest
Solace

Falling To the Earth...Rising To the Heavens

Could it make you feel
You know it all
Watch out
I might fall

Out of this world
Out of this mind...
...set...
And that's match point

To the point
It's the tip of the iceberg

Your ship crashes
into my world
Navigational direction
can't help you now

"Watch out for falling dreams,"
the sign reads
They can break your hopes
and break your heart

That's just a start
or an end

Pieces fall
do you let them lay?

We all fall down
and there's always
A new day

The Pacesetter

The loss of ink
Unable to think

It's been awhile
Have I lost my
style?

The thoughts
come racing
And now I'm pacing

Because your
next thought
Isn't quite your
own

I should have
known
All along

That everyone else
Would tell
you

You've always
been wrong.

The Minstrels, the Lovers, and the Mad

the minstrels
the lovers
and the mad

dare to explore
where others fear
to tread

we wish on falling
stars
not knowing where they
land

a million miles to
Babylon
a journey
unknown

paradise awaits
those who dare
to walk
alone

Ultimate

Always looking for that ultimate

That ultimate whatever

Whatever you want

When you want it

What will you do when you get it?

What are the sacrifices you had to make?

Was it all worth it?

Did it all end up as you had planned?

When the realization sets in

That you can’t take it with you

The materialism falls apart

And you are only left baring your soul
