The Crock Pot

GRANDMA STOOD OVER THE STOVE
BOILING WATER AND CUTTING UP Vegetables
AND MEAT FOR Sundays DINNER
BEEF STEW
I CALLED OUT TO HER
I WALKED OUT INTO THE KITCHEN
AND SHE WAS STANDING THERE WITH TEARS IN HER EYES
I SAID GRANDMA WHAT’S WRONG
SHE SAID NOTHING CHILD
NOW GO BACK TO THE TABLE AND HAVE A SEAT
I ALWAYS WONDERED WHAT WAS WRONG WITH GRANDMA I WOULD SEE
HER EVERYDAY
BUT SOMETIMES SHE DIDN’T WANT TO COME OUTSIDE AND PLAY
HER WEIGHT WAS GOING UP AND DOWN AND I ALWAYS ASKED HER WHY
SHE WOULD SAY OH CHIL’ NOTHING YOU’LL
LEARN ABOUT IT ONCE YOU GET OLDER
SHE ‘LL JUST SAY GRANDMA NOT FEELING TO GOOD
NOW CAN YOU COME AND BRAID MY HAIR FOR ME
GRANDMA HAD CANCER AND NOW I SEE WHY GRANDMA COULDN’T COME
OUT AND PLAY
I stand here in my kitchen over my crock pot with tears in my eyes
I WENT THROUGHT WHAT GRANDMA WENT
THROUGH I WISH THAT SHE WAS STILL HEre TODAY
I understood her from my own experience
Long after she’s gone
She’s still my hero

My Invitation To Life

I was given an Invitation to life
God said I'm going to bless you with these two wonderful parents
This is your Invitation to life
Life if not going to be easy my child
There are going to be ups and downs
There are going to be obstacles
Trials and Tribulations
This is your invitation to life
It's up To you weather or not you take this invitation to life
Nothing in this world is free take your life as it is
Enjoy your invitation to life
Mine was almost taken from me 4 times
While I'm here i'm going to make the best of this Invitation
You only get it once, I''m going to cherish it anyway, shape, form, or fashion that
life comes in
life is what you make it out to be
I'm going to make the very best of it

My Invitation to Life

The Fetal Position

YES SHE WAS IN THE FETAL POSITION
FORGETTING ABOUT EVERYTHING EVEN HER SON
NO ONE COULD SNAP HER OUT OF IT NOT EVEN HER MOTHER
I WOULD WONDER WHEN SHE WAS GOING TO
NOTICE HER SON IN THE OTHER ROOM
WHILE SHE’S LYING THERE ON THE HALLWAY FLOOR
CRYING AND SCREAMING OVER A MAN WHO DID NOT WANT HER OR HER
SON?
SHE’S TRYING TO DO ANYTHING TO KEEP THIS MAN
SHE FORGOT ABOUT HER SON WHO WAS WATCHING HER
LAY THERE IN THE FETAL POSITION
YELLING HIS FATHER’S NAME
HE JUST PEEPS IN THE LITTLE BOY’S ROOM AND WALKS BY
AND SAYS TO HIM YOU SEE THIS WEAK TRICK DON’T YOU
SORRY PIECE OF WORK
HE’S FORGETTING THAT THE BABY MIND IS A
SPONGE
SO EVERY TIME HE YELLS OUT OBSCENITIES TO HIS MOTHER HE’S
SOAKING IT ALL UP
SHE HADN’T SHOWERED OR EATEN IN A FEW DAYS
HE JUST THOUGHT OF HER AS NOTHING
THE FETAL POSITION OR THE BABY WASN’T GOING
TO KEEP HIM THERE BECAUSE HE WASN’T THE FATHER
HE DIDN’T UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH THE BABY’S
FACE LIT UP WHEN HE ENTERED THE HOME
THIS IS A MESSAGE TO HER GET UP
SHAKE IT OFF BECAUSE YOU’RE BETTER THAN THAT
LOOK AT WHERE YOU COME FROM A WHOLE ARMY FULL OF BLACK
BEAUTIFUL STRONG WOMEN WHO STUCK IT OUT AND SURVIVED THE BEST
WAY THAT THEY COULD WHEN IT’S OVER IT’S OVER
LIVE FOR YOUR CHILD BECAUSE HE’S WATCHING YOU IN THE FETAL
POSITION
