Overcome

We are strong, wise and have the capabilities to rise.
Countries have risen above communism.
Women have risen above sexism.

But when will we rise above the killings, rise above the deaths?

We rise above the school systems and teenage troubles;
but what about the rest?

It’s time to stop littering these streets with grief,
time to give our families relief.
How much more pain do you think the inner city can take?
All these fallen tears are from the heartache that some of us chose to make.

Live life instead of taking it, refuse death instead of creating it.

Our ancestors rose above slavery, we’re rising above hate;
don’t let these headlines (“inner city streets of boston hit 48th homicide of 2006")-
become the inner cities fate.

We rose above so much.
We’ll rise above it all;
but it’s time for our youth to rise before the next generation falls.

Big Mama

I still remember when i first met her.
Since then i wanted to go back;
"I wish i could of known you better."

When the news of your expected death arrived i was;
shocked, hurt and surprised.
You were so loveable, sweet and wise.

I wish that i could of seen you again.
To laugh with you, talk with you.
To be with you before your life came to an end.

I remember the day she thought you were gone.
Left. Motherless was what she thought.
She tried hard, but trapped within an ocean of tears, she was caught.

You think it's hard to see your child hurt?
Well, it was hard to see my mother cry.
She thought you were gone,
Yet then you really left.

There was nothing i could do.
You being gone was actually true?
It was; is.
My big mama died.

I will always wish i could have seen you to say good-bye.
I still see you, but only an image, a reflection.

An Angel within the skies.
A reflection within my mother's eyes.
The day you left i was not there, but the earth cried.

Many may ask why i miss you so much,
when we were always so far apart.
We were miles away,
Now we're heavens away.
But you never left my heart.

Nightmare

I had a dream one night,
about how the world had no light.
There were ten years olds growing up so fast,
buying guns and killing kids in class.

Loss of childhood innocence.

High teenage pregnancy rates.
Teenagers' killing senselessly, not caring that heaven was slowly closing it's
gates.

Loss of morality.

Mothers' killing the young lives they create,
General safety continues to eliminate.

Loss of security.

The only innocence left was from children just learning to walk,
Four dozen murders and no one wanted to talk.

Tossing and turning, i began to fear this world.
Scared that i wouldn't wake up from this nightmare.

Waking up in a cold sweat,
I realized that this was a dream that i would never forget.

I turned on the news and saw a similar reality,
Which i will never forget.

Understandable

If your eyes long for her like mine wish for you,
And you try to explain; but to the words;
have no clue.

If your heart grows wings and flies to her,
like mins soars towards you.

If you wanartt to have something more,
but don't want to ruin what you got;
then your feelings to me,
foreign they're not.

If you fell that you have to try and speak your heart,
If you feel like you have to reach for the stars,
when underground is where you really are.

If you feel like she's the light at the end of your tunnel,
the wings to your caged bird,
the beat to your heart.

The words to a poet,
but for some reason you never did know it.

The rapids in your river,
the color in your art.

If she's the mystery in the eyes of your mona lisa;
then i understand.
I can understand why.

You have the right to love who your heart chooses;
but it just hurts to kow i'll be the one that loses.
But, you do have the rught to choose;like any other woman or man.
So if your heart feels more love for her than me, i understand.

Life's Lessons

Lessons of love that hurts to know.
"If you love someone you'll let them go."
Let them go so they can follow their dreams,
Let them go before your love rips from the seams.

Lessons of dreams that may never come true.
"There are millions of dreams, but only one meant for you."
Some dreams fail because a different one was meant to prevail.

Lessons of death.
"The good die young."
We may not understand it and continue to question it, but it happens.
We all have a purpose on this earth.
Some people's purpose is ended before others.

Lessons of broken promises.
"The only thing we are promised is death."
One day everything must die.
Every life has an end.
That doesn't mean you give up your right to try.

Lessons of deceit.
Not everyone's intentions are good.
We can't trust everyone even though we wish we could.
Always trust your self and you'll be okay;
to always find a path that lights the way.

Lessons of failure.
"It's alright to fall, as long as you remember to pick yourself up."
It takes no strength to fall or give up."

Life has many lessons to teach,
from life we have many lessons to learn.
Some are hard, some just difficult;
and others so harsh.

Lessons that exist for a reason.
That reason is to learn the lessons of life.

My One Wish

Belongs to me and only me.
Knows what i know.
Sees what i see.
"Something" that's mine.

Not a house or a car to share.
Not somebody who doesn't care.
"Something" that recognizes tears that i cry.
"Something" that's eternal and never dies;
so i'll never have to say good-bye.
"Something" that's mine.

"Something" that eases pain-
instead of causing it.
"Something" that tells me it's secrets, instead of hiding them in a closet.

"Something" that may anger, but doesn't hate.
"Something" that's always there-
beating the odds of fate.
"Something" that's mine.

"Something" that listens, but hears.
"Something" that will erase my fears.
"Something that's mine.
"Something" that knows my fears of being up high,
but helps me to learn to fly.

"Something" that tells me it's alright to change, alright to go.
Mine.
"Something" i don't have to tell i don't want to be alone;
Because that something will already know.
Mine.

"Something" that's mine.
If I could have one wish, let it be this.

There's happiness and love out there; but none of it mine.

Send "Something" just for me.
Not for sometimes, but for all.
Stands for me and doesn't fall.
That's all.
Mine.
It's all i ask for, all i wish and hope for.
Mine.
"Something" that's mine.
"Something"
"Something" that's mine.

Message of Life

I depend on every one, thinking they'll come through.
But apparently me just believing it,
won't make it true.

Maybe my problem is that i always lean on everyone else,
When i should just lean on myself.
No matter how much you try and change in your mind,
it just won't work.
A lesson that you'll soon come to find.

I find myself asking:
Who can i depend on?
I imagined that i could depend on so many.
But now i see.
All i can count is me.

There are so many disappointments in life.
People go away;
and you can't go-
cause your somehow forced to stay.
People grow and people change.
Your dependency just needs to rearrange.

You can cry and get up, or cry and stay down.

Falling, just because yet another person has let you down?
That's no way to live.
Just always remember that it's normal for people to fall.
The important thing is how you pick yourself up,
how you continue to live,
and what made you learn.
Mistakes.
Mistakes make you learn.

Things happen in life,
but you'll live.
Things go wrong in life,
but you'll learn.

You live another day so you learn from your mistakes.
You live to learn,
Learn to Live.
That's the message that mistakes give.
You live and you learn.
