Fragment of Truth

(for George Ehusani)

When minority
Threatens majority;
Self-solidarity
Divorces reality,
These in a community
Depict dilapidation of the society
And decadence of integrity
Of humanity
In every country!

Time

Time,
Faster you run on
Through life your patron
Within space and moment
Leaving behind nothing untouched.

Time,
Determiner of existence.
What a complex companion:
What a frank friend;
What a secret enemy.

Solitary Admiration

Since my first glance
Of the lady like a gazelle
Along the silent street
I have hoped
To meet her again.

Since the first gaze—
My solitary admiration of her ebony figure
Along Joseph Harrison street,
Passionately have I scripted
My heart’s sequential expressions:

“Let me fill your heart
with bundles of gazania flower,
let me into your warm arms and
hover my lips over yours
in the confines of my gazebo.”

“Let me have a taste
of your succulent breast--
a sweet cherry in the forest--
to bedew my rusty heart
for being in love again!”

Severely, Shallion hissed
And grasped my thigh,
Slowly she clung her red-lips
Tighter to my subtly moistened lips
Along the silent street.

Women Revolt

Weaker sex we’re known and termed,
We are made idle like lexis
Without structure to construct sentences.

They treat us as infants for we’re fragile;
To rear offspring we’re considered fertile
’Tis then we would be teased as agile.

Stop creating professionalism based on agile from fragile,
We’re gifted as you are and fertile;
Blessed with abundant power and charisma!

Where were you when Moremi Ajaasoro
Persisted and resisted the threats of the Ugbo raiders,
She rebelled when many men trembled?

Where were you when Efunroye Tinubu
The great Amazon of Eko land, mutinied
Against alien plans of the colonial consuls?

Where were you when Iyalode of Ibadan
Overthrew the entirety of old-Ibadan land
Whilst men of complex cablire were used as luxury?

Where were you when Idia of Benin
Led many men to war against the Igala
And returned with victory to Benin?

We’re equally up to the task,
Still we’re agile and fertile as the past,
You’re on our path please pathway!

Distant Admiration

At a distance it glitters
Her moist and ebony skin
Under the semi-dark sky
Early in the morning
Along silent Harrison street.

From a distance I was captivated
By her uncalculated catwork
Towards my path along the street;
Her long straight, spotless and smooth legs
Piercing through her three quarter skirt
Engross my heart with passion.

Distantly, I tremble...
My heart's desired angle
And her suavity
Unleash eccentric emotion in me.
By her simple...admired attire;
Blended with her authentic skin colour
I am enchanted from a distance
Along noiseless Harrison Street.

Attached Souls

Sincerely, it’s sad;
Heart-arching
Soul-dampening
Hearing “Farewell” bid
By the beloved,
Truly it’s bad;
Tearing apart
This touching attachment
Of utmost feeling: love!
It’s damned fearful;
Listening to the distressed,
Agonized, pained and solemn
Expressions of a heart
Beset by beating confessions.
It’s indeed madness;
Tearing apart attached souls,
Sailing across life’s coasts
In love’s vessel!

Traveller

Traveller I was
Long before last time;
Once again I become
A traveller!
A traveller I am
Sailing in search
Of my second-half
Across oceans and seas
From coast to coast
Along cold dawn
Beneath scorching sun
At noon,
And the warm evening.
I have travelled
With blanket of sorrow,
Jacket of joy
Enshrined in my heart's
Pouch,
Like a hunch back.
Only in search
Of my beloved!

Poetic Cratftiness

Dad, I’ve come of age;
Ready to follow suit,
Your literary path.

"Okay son go on,
Write your thoughts:
Not only in lines,
Also in stanzas; lyrics
And prosaic formats."

Here dad, are my recently
Written creative pieces,
Hope improvement
They all profess/confess?

"Not better son,
Filled with creative lapses
And lack grammatical accuracy still!
Well, write on son,
Your poetic craft
Will be blossom pretty soon
‘Cos you’re just twenty-four."

Oh, thanks dad.
I promise my poetic craftiness
Will surpass yours
Before I’m fifty-four!"
