Vows

I refused to be ignored, helpless, and labeled as another bad seed
I refuse to fall in the trap that these so called "statistics" has made for me
I refuse to be stupid and take my education for granted
I refuse to put down a custom or culture because I don't understand it
I refuse to not speak my mind, I refuse to not say what I mean
I refuse to be called anything other than a civilized human being
I refuse tosatisfy enemies by holding my head down in shame
I refuse to be a traitor by slurring my brothers and sisters name
I refuse to prove statistics right by fitting their description of a "normal black teen"
I refuse to be black and not know what being black means
I refuse to lack i n education when it was given to me to have
I refuse to not have a future when it is there for me to grasp
I refuse to apologize for being different and for not fitting in
I refuse to try to please other people, because that is a battle that I will never win
I refuse to try to be like images in the magazines
I refuse to be corrupted by what I see in the media and on my T.V. screen
But most of all I refuse to be anything other than me

Rainy Dayz

When the rain comes
So do my thoughts
Pouring down in drops
Like they were directly heaven sent
My poetry flows the way it was meant to be
Line for line
Verse for verse
Page for Page
My words know no skin color
No age
Just a voice
My words don't discriminate
or procrastinate
It leaves you with a choice
When the rain comes
My thoughts fester and bubble
Arising from underneath Junk and Rubble
Put there by weekly T.V.
and magazines
As the raindrops hit the ground
My thoughts fall down
And become stuck somewhere in between
Existence
And non-existence
Waiting for me
To make my thoughts
A reality

Sex & the Soul of a Woman (A Letter To Sex)

You
You took away the confident person that I once knew
I was
Made me choose things that I wouldn't normally choose
All because
You wanted my soul
But because of you
My soul is empty and cold
From people who have took from it pieces
and bits
But I'll willingly give you whats left of it
You see
I don't want to do this
And everytime I do this, its not as beautiful
as I meant it to be
But its always as shameful as you meant
it to be
For me
You had me
Even as a child
You should have finished it
You used THEM to take away my innocence
Let them scar me, and left me abused
Only to get older and be misused
By you in the same way
The same crave
You got me I'm your slave
But no more
No I'm not a pure virgin
And yes I have been soiled
And sometimes I see myself tying a rope around my neck and
watching it coil
Around my fingers as I slip in and out of conscience
But this is your fault you made me like this
You made me think I was ugly
Thought I needed you to breathe
Thought I wasn't good enough
Forgot I was worthy
But No More

Reclaiming the Throne

I'm reclaiming my throne
I don't have to take yo s__t
Forget what you thought you knew
And what you heard I did
Because I am not confined to a set place or time
Nor a date or a set state of mind
I'm back, back with a vengance
Never surrendered, Never bended
Bold as ever
Defeated never
Big lips, Proud stride
Big hips, Thick thighs
And d__ proud of me
Not statistically trapped to what you want me to be
Never seen beauty this powerful since the Black Queen Nefertiti
My bark is hard and my bite is harder
Hottest thing happening since Jesus walked on water
I'm not a minority, not deprived
I'm a formerly known Queen with a mean a__ stride
So leave yo comments in yo mouth
And leave well enough alone
Black women get like me and reclaim your throne

The 1960s Negro

The stale still win and the pulsating sounds of police sirens
Followed by the hard thud of a twelve gate shot gun firing
Instantly tears my heart to shreds
Because another black man or should I say another Negro is dead
As I ran to the scene of bloodshed and tears
What I see is what I feared
I fall down to my knees
And with a thunderous cry I beg
The Lord to have mercy on me please
And like our savior Jesus Christ before his time of doom
I cried out to God with a voice of gloom
And asked him to take away from me this black curse, this black sin
That seems to follow me and my black skin
And then
I uplifted mine eyes and I saw
This very thing that they called the law
Plunging towards me with eyes filled with hate
The intensity of the situation leaving me in a shocked state
I heard the crack of my skull, felt the dept of the bruise
And I knew that this was my destiny
The one I didn't choose
Then it all went dead, I remembered nothing after that
Everything suddenly faded to black
Back to black
Where it all began

To the Love of My Life

My pulse quickens
I can't see
I can't breathe
My eyesight is blurry
The only thing that's clear is the sound of my own heartbeat
You've captured me
Taken my breath away
Yes, you've captured me
You captured me at first glance
Made me shiver at the first touch
Opened my mind to new possibilities
God knows I love you so much
You speak and my body twitches, my soul sings
A simple "I love you" makes my heart flutter like butterfly wings
I am your prisoner
You owe me nothing, I owe you everything
The man who made me love again is now my sweet African King
Kisses as soft as rose petals, seem like their heaven sent
I asked God for an angel and he knew exactly what I meant
Kiss me again sweetheart, kiss me until you reach my soul
And when this task is done
Watch my love unfold
Promise me you won't leave,
promise me you won't go
If I ever insist on leaving
Look me in the eyes and tell me no
For if I am ever without you
Its sure to be my downfall
And if I can't have the one I love
Then I would rather not love at all

                                               -Lyric-

Why I Love Him

He makes me feel beautiful
without even licking my lips
or batting my eyes
or swaying my hips
or lifting my thighs
He makes me feel beautiful from the inside
And I feel that he feels
every word that I say
And that he allows me to express
myself in every creative way
that I know how
I tell him my darkest secrets
Not one has he told
And for the first time I know
that
I feel that
Someone looked at me and didn't see sex
but saw a soul
He sees my soul
He knows me wellI tell him my darkest secrets
Yet he never tells
I tell him my darkest pains
Those things that left me teary eyed and cold
Those things that scarred the heart and hardened the soul
And he took his heart and shielded my soul
From those things that left me teary eyed and cold
He's just that type of man
Sensitive but strong
And he helps me to understand
That this is the way I should be loved
And I love him
Because
He makes me feel beautiful
with out even licking my lips
or batting my eyes
or swaying my hips
or lifting my thighs
He makes me feel beautiful from the inside

Unknown

I didn't cry
Looked Hatred in the eye
And I stood bold
My daddy might not have been nobody
And I might have been a bastard child
But I held my head up high
And all the while
I didn't cry

The Lovers Song

Her: My heart is a beating drum
Listen to the rhytmic flow
As each thud causes the blood to pump to my heart
And the passion to my soul

His: How can I listen to the rhythmic flow
When I am the rhythmic flow
The single blow
Of the constant flow of passion to your soul

Her: More like the heat to my flame
You fill me with desire
Making my love come down
Leaving me feeling like my body is on fire

His: My love let your body burn
For a single touch will coooool you down
With my lips I'll deliver a kiss that will heat you up
Only to lay you down

Her: I love every part of you, your lips and your sweet essence
My body tingles when you speak, and moistens at your presence

His: Your African King
Every part of me was created by God to catch your attention
From my fiery lips to other things I'd rather not mention

Her: Mention them to me sweetheart
I have all the time in the world
Make me remember why your my love and why I'm your girl
Protest your love for me, in and out of time
Give me your heart, as I present to you mine

His: You will find my love for you in and out of time
As you present your heart to me you will find
in time
you already had mine

Last Teardrop

I've cried my last teardrop
I don't want to cry no more
I watched my last teardrop tumble and splash onto the floor
I don't want to cry no more
I don't want to hurt no more
No pain
No teardrops
Not today
Not anymore
I've loved my last love
I don't want to love no more
I watched my last love tumble and break to the floor
I don't want to love no more
I don't want to feel no more
No love
No feeling
Not today
Not anymore
