The Trip

Needle in hand she plunges it in,
as the blood flows the trip begins.
It will take her to new heights
  she cannot travel alone,
a one way ticket to the danger zone.

She feels it coursing through her veins,
oh the emotions this power inflames.
Reaching out she touches death's hand,
only to yank it back again.
Like she has done so many times before,
  playing games at death's door.

Only this trip will not end like that,
death will finally grab her back.
Pulling her into his cold embrace,
fearing the darkness she must now face.
Knowing that she can never go back...
that this trip will be her last.

Battered

With his fists he hits you hard, blood sprays as you hit the floor.
What did you do this time to deserve his rage?
curling up inside yourself you begin to pray.

Yelling he hits you harder, bones begin to crack from his thunder.
Oh god what do you say, what can you do, how can you get away?
Then as suddenly as it appears his rage subsides and disappears.

The punches stop, the tears begin he is so sorry, this isn't him.
How many times have you heard this line?
How many times have you been blind?

With tear filled eyes and a bloodied face,
you rise and begin to walk away.
Leaving him alone sitting on the floor,
he cries out your name once more.

With a sigh deep in your chest you do not hesitate in your step,
as you reach for the door knowing you cannot endure this pain anymore.
Walking outside into the light you begin to pick up the pieces of your battered life!

Depression

Darkness grips me like a vise.
Choking out what little light
dwells within.

The emptiness resounds inside
my head, an engulfing echo of
nothingness.

Paying homage to the cold damp
empty shell, where once warmth
flourished not so long ago.

Light and darkness entangled in
knots, becoming one but separate.
Fighting for dominance of my soul.

Drowning in the dark river of despair.
I see only a shallow glimpse of what
was, I sink deeper into the murky void.

Gagging, I choke on my own bitterness.
I let the rancid liquid fill me until it
pours forth from every pore.

Enlightenment is not on my horizon,
all shimmering of hope has faded.
Blindness will continue to be my guide.
