The Loneliness of Together

This life has become unbearable
Two ships passing in the night
For there is no greater loneliness
Than the loneliness of together

How two people can desecrate
Each other with such brutality
Two lives torn into tatters
Addicted as we, both to pain

It is easy to complain of suffering
To wallow in the agony
Hearts that beat so separate
Never again to beat as one

Dreamed it would be different
Not hollow, empty and dank
Not the life mapped by myself
Never thought I wanted this

There is no end to the bitterness
Those circles spin round and around
Trapped in a life so mundane
Feels there is no way out

There is still a part that hopes
Of a clear sky on a clearer day
To wrestle on with obstinance
Until I allow me to be me again

Enjoy What It Is To Be Alive

Sit back, try to relax
Calm your mind, still your eyes
Breath slowly and observe
Enjoy What It Is To Be Alive

Feel the moment you have
Try not to run or hide
Embrace all that you are
Enjoy What It Is To Be Alive

Take a second to ponder
All that has been and gone
Let it gently wash over you
Enjoy What It Is To Be Alive

See that God has surrounded
Your every waking thought
We are never alone in this life
Enjoy What It Is To Be Alive

Love can be given by any
I too am equally included
Every happening to be counted
Enjoy What It Is To Be Alive

Tomorrows Little Dream

This is no illusion,
Time is never still.
If you were blind before,
What hope can the future bring now?

In this time of loneliness,
There is nothing but segregation.
Nothing more than the existentialist,
What hope can the future bring now?

Now that we stand guarded,
What will the new dawn hold?
If eyes can pierce a beating heart,
What hope can the future bring now?

In this time of bitterness,
Of exceptional cruelty and hate.
Could not the wise ones say,
What hope can the future bring now?

For scholar and learned man alike,
Can spout truths, facts and figures.
But amidst the pomp and spluttering,
What hope can the future bring now?

Rise then and be heard wistful,
No one has our stance and holding.
We are comfort in a sick world,
We are today, tomorrows little dream

Interstellar

Time weary and battle tired,
Muster to fight once again.
An ocean of calm deceit,
Crashes to an innocent shore

Brilliant in all its dazzlement,
Of mountains with cool springs
Taken from a planet that still spins
In a great universe of purest form

There in time each motion caught
Plays on and on once again
To sit is to find brave course
In every moment we all shared

Our train journeys far into space
When called we must disembark
These fleeting's repeat in their place
Where once we will all fall behind.

Moderation In All Things, Ode To Daniel

Willful is shown as your gesture
An indicator of strength
Though part of it is recoil
From the life that went before

Be calm in your journey
The destination does not count
People and moments matter
Enjoy every moment spent

Know when to use your anger
Applied right you will be strong
Never, let time in memory
Remove that smile from your face

Allow time for quiet
To do absolute nothing
Hear the calm in silence
Life will be so more full

Love is the key to everything
Not a second to be wasted
Remember, as I ever told you
Moderation in all things

Havana

Touched down at José Martí Airport
The air is so full, so very loud
Standing out, a thumb that is sore
Bleached face in a black crowd

The poverty is so very overwhelming
Though poorer I am aware there is
A taxi that has two decades on me
Revolution through a people missed

In my days of sunshine and rain
Feeling homely so very quick
Not the place I thought it would be
Though something I know will stick

So five days later I am back again
Feeling the native not a tourist be
Plans already to visit again
As long as Havana takes me again

My Mother, Earth

On a misty evening,
As the sun goes down.
Cold air rises from the water,
I want to be there with you.

The wind works through the trees,
Rustling and enjoying reviving.
The sun warming the earth’s skin,
I want to be there for you.

When the rain cools baked soil,
Feeding its malnutrition.
Waking her subservient followers,
I want to be holding you.

To dust the earth will travel,
As time predicts, it is inevitable.
The universe won’t notice her absence,
I will still be there with you.

Happy Alone

Be calm at the aggressor
The mason that slowly chip
With a wooden mallet and chisel
At my once unbroken surface

Forget hurtful, sharp, untrue word
Put distance between you
Do not allow them to stick
Black tar to my clean skin

Avoid being dragged into madness
They cannot wallow alone
My company is sought after
To wade in those shallow depths

Choose your companions wisely
To travel through this life
When in moments of sickness
Never a good time to be wanted

Remember to be most true
You are only you when being you
No one should take that angry
Happy alone over unhappy together

This Morning I Woke Up

This morning I woke up
I looked down at my naked form
How a being so small in the universe
Can leave in its wake such misery

This morning I woke up
Eyes puffy, glued at the seams
Bloated, lifeless and stiff
A struggle to get started today

This morning I woke up
Sad, with a small shot of anger
Feel teeth gritted, shut tight
As if to speak would do harm

This morning I woke up
Slightly numb to the day before
A little touch of apprehension
For what today has in store

Concrete Castle

Sitting tight in my concrete castle
Not sure if to venture outside
The sun is bliss this fine morning
Moods lighten in sunlight

Calm is my morning contemplation
Drinking tea with eyes barely open
A house of silent awakening
Ready to explode into life

Forgetful of the troubles around me
For a moment ignorant in bliss
Trying to hold this feeling sacred
As a world apart from what is

A creak to show intrusion
My words hidden from question
Taking a part of me silent
Into a world I try to escape

Gently I venture to confident
My words again take shape
Sitting tight in my concrete castle
I’ll stay until safe into night
