Devotion

I dream of you
           I fantasize
           I see you when
           I close my eyes
           I speak your name
           With every breath
           I vow to love you
           Unto death
           I think of you
           All the day long
           My love expressed
           In verdant song
           I speak of you
          To all my friends
           I long for you
          When each day ends
          I see your smile
          In every face
          In my heart you hold
          A special place
          I know that we
          Were meant to be
          And that you're the only
          One for me
          And when I go
          To sleep at night
          I know this love
          Is more than right

Friendship Ended

A young robin my cat once befriended
Till one day the relationship ended
                  I came home to find
That my cat changed her mind
For from her mouth a feather extended

The Fisherman

With pole in hand and watchful eye
           He a silent vigil keeps
With firm resolve to land the "Big One" or die
Casting into shallow reeds and cover deep
It matters not whether in a boat
            Or standing on the ground
Armed with every style of bait
              Not another soul around
         He sits, contented to wait
Tension mounts as the line goes slack
Then begins to pull s-l-o-w-l-y ever tighter
              And with a whiplike motion
                 He jerks it back !
              Oh yes! He's got a fighter !!!
He sets the hook and patiently reels
Prepared if necessary to tire out his prey
                            A sudden resounding SPLASH !
Reveals the trophy he'll take home today
                            But what? Oh NO!!
                     A resonant POP!
                A disappointing death of thrill
But he's a true sportsman and he will not give up
For Lady Luck is no match for skill
So, again with pole in hand and a watchful eye
He in silent vigil once more keeps
                       With an even firmer resolve
To land the "Big One" or die
Casting into shallow reeds and cover deep.

Winter

As autumn bids the land farewell
           And winter's visit starts
           An air of pure enchantment
           Stirs something in our hearts

The sleeping earth is covered in white
As the snow falls gently down
A sight to behold as the sun comes up
The trees adorned in ermine gowns

The roofs of houses wear snowy crowns
On the hills children shriek with delight
The odor of hickory hangs in the air
Hinting of a fireplace warm and bright

           Yards are dotted with snowmen
Each with a jolly bright face
           Jack Frost drapes the windowpanes
With a shawl of silvery lace

           Footprints dot the landscape
           And in the wintry chill
           A majestic stag stands regally
           A king upon the hill

          Winter is a masterpiece
          Designed for all to see
A living showcase arranged by God
To be enjoyed by you and me

Robin Hood

Robin Hood once took a chance
On teaching his merry men to dance
He taught them to cha cha
          The young maidens went gaga
To see the dashing thieves in tight pants

Reading

For as long as I remember
                                           I've always loved to read
                                           It didn't really matter what
                                           It all fulfilled a need
A good love story warmed my heart
I traveled through time with history
The comic pages made me laugh
And I always loved a good mystery
Through the pages of books I have traveled
Across oceans and deserts I've roamed
I've not spent a dime on my journeys
And I just close the book to come home
I get to meet famous people
And though I've never set foot in a college
Every book that I read will help me succeed
To expand in wisdom and knowledge
I must say though I do have a favorite
Tis the greatest book I believe ever written
For treasures untold as the stories unfold
It speaks volumes to those who will listen
Its a little of everything rolled into one
                                           Humor, mystery, history and love
All written by one single author
                                           Our glorious Creator above
Someday I might too be an author
I'll never know lest I try
But regardless of whether I'm published
I'll still love to read till i die

Autumn

Autumn weaves its tapestry
Of colors bright and bold
A symphony of nature
A royal vision to behold

On mountains high and valleys low
Everywhere one looks
The master artist paints a scene
Unmatched in picture books

Then as the tapestry unravels
We reflect on seasons past
Wondering why the beauty
Of autumn can not last

Inspiration

My mind shifts into overdrive
     Spinning like a wheel
     Creative juices flowing
Can't describe quite how I feel
It seems once I get started
      Inspiration flows like wine
      Thoughts ever bubbling forward
From this thinking box of mine
I hope that age will never dim
     This creative light within
And love of prose will light the way
For the journey of the pen
