Somnath Sarkar Poem
Life’s seashore,rough, stirring, indifferent and warm,
Showcases the face of the old man withering the storm;
An old man waiting for Providence to show him the night to the day,
As he gazes at the playful dolphins, swimming free over waves’ sway!
The Old man and the Sea!
The burden of remembrances lying heavy in his gnarled hands,
A long way from home was the dusty horizon of the distant lands;
Watching the cheerful daily handshake of the Paradise and earth ~
Stealing his senses, bidding adieu to his dreams or what’s left of worth!
The Old man and the Sea!
Yearns he to sail once more, to the desolate sea and the sky,
Where images standstill as everything in time is frozen in his eye;
Longing for his love he hears the flood of her gasp in the oil of night, really,
Is he reeling away from a young boy´s dream slipping by so swiftly!
The Old man and the Sea!
Where there’s no spring, no summer, no winter, no autumn but promises to keep….
Where the wind caresses his soul, as he again sails the sea over his mandolin’s bleep;
The ocean’s gentle roar, his only friend as the Old man just stares at life, fourscore,
The wind of time blows right into his eyes of lost desire as nothing lasts forevermore!!!
The Old man and the Sea!

Somnath Sarkar Poem
There’s an addict residing deep within me-
Seeking and probing for the seventh si,
In the abode of the Conscious Spirit~
Solmizate a song which on my life writ.
Probing for one single way of rhythm,
My strivings to stay an eternal pilgrim….
Where qualms and turmoil disappear,
A trip of the fealty imbues cohere.
I seek His Chariot my belief cast aside,
There is a Way clear and undisguised.
To keep on with a single mind to reach,
To dream the impossible dream impleach.
Relieve my mind filled with unrest and turmoil,
My tired soul fills with calm of Your Aura moil…
Still my subsistence is bereft in desolation~
I cry to ever be with You in conflation!
Yet I am lonely and I'll always dream,
To reach the unreachable effervescent star~
When I awake with preferences cast aside,
The Way stands clear and undisguised.
When devotion and belief are distinct,
And the mind and faith are interlinked;,
Then it is beyond all libretti, all thoughts fey,
For then, I know there is no yesterday,
Only a Point there is, no tomorrow, no today!
What is, is not, what is, is not is -
Pro tem confines have no place in His;
Where the major is the minor too -
It is here it is here my song joins anew!!

Somnath Sarkar Poem
I remember this place bygone in antiquity so well,
As the sea slurped the cliff mellifluous on the swell;
As we sat bemused in ourselves, on the cliff rock…..
The seagulls swooped in their nest to dock!
The sun on the horizon dipped in salute,
Wafting came in the lilting sound of the flute;
Dusk was settling in as the watch strained to six-
The fishermen’s wharf was busy the sampan to fix.
The stars were peppered and the heavens were alight,
The moon glowed majestically in its floated flight;
We gazed at each other clasping her warm hand in mine,
Dreams of silence weaved together unspoken words left to shine!
Your laughter surfs across the resonant sea as the tiara slips,
The dew treasures your kisses as it softly falls on your lips;
My brush glides across the canvas on the easel as I behold~
Your eternal splendor cascades slowly as I capture you in gold!
Pleasure and ecstasy catapults to the fore, misery and sorrows cast away,
I ponder in astonishment as I portray your soothing beauty in sway;
Tomorrow and ever after as I hold your hand walking in the fading light~
Do remember this place where we painted the rainbow in the twilight!!

Somnath Sarkar Poem
Inclined on the divan with a book, in my room, I was all alone,
Wrapped in a quilt tucked around my feet, the wind’s moan….
In the cold gusty afternoon sun – casting its timid rays.
The howling squall…blowing outside my window in a daze ,
My skin tingling……as sharp molecule of air brushed against my face …..
And last night it was raining too, in solitude!
With no one around in sight that I could allude………
No one to talk to as I twisted in my loneliness,
Thoughts as waves spun in my mind’s ocean;
There’s a late night straggler on a tipsy motion,
Is he too feeling the same solitude alone in his stroll....
The desire for solitude casting a shadow on my soul!
Our dreams had looked momentarily so bright,
Hopes of a future held so much more in anticipation.
Time we spent were mere memories, lost in isolation,
Insecurities felt to the very core as time eats away the bliss
And between now and then searching for profound solitude amiss~
A glass of red Merlot wine ousting the gloom to the furthest alife…….
Relishing a melody of a single sigh sings me back to life,
Last night I cried out mutely beset by fears of sweet pain
In the silent night where no sound shows face, I choose to listen;
For the sake of untying this ribbon of fear, for hearing a sound,
Besides silence my conscience urges me from roaming around;
In solitude, I woke up in the morning to a collage of memories,
Reading a book out loud - my voice shaking, collecting bits and pieces~
As the heroine longed for togetherness - in an isolated crowd-
To be loved in a relaxing rhythm - in solitude…!!

Somnath Sarkar Poem
Leaning by the window, I see countless faces in the crowd,
A milieu of looks grim, tense,relaxing, carefree, head bowed;
Walking swiftly those fasciae of humanity in its varied motions,
The mixed faces, cloaked in stiff guises of varied emotions
Shrouded from themselves, without displaying their craves,
Each imprisoned in their smooth veneers undulating as waves,
There are trances in the façades of those people I had met,
Their visages as empty as the blank canvas, on the easel set~
Killing valuable time, everyone trying their best to look pretty,
All lost in banality,in their yesterdays and tomorrows gritty ....
Unseen, unrecognized being a face-in-the-crowd, anonymous really,
It was not me but with me,just someone else, they’re all alone, finally!!

Somnath Sarkar Poem
Last evening there was a sense of restlessness,
I wasn’t able to grasp why this abjectness;
The sun was slowly dying in a goodbye to a father,
The pain once again manifested my grief to gather;
I wish he could’ve lived and loved eternally and forever,
I’ll walk miles to love him and be loved again allover,
The clouds amass as the shadows come out to play:
Inevitably the creeping night smothers out the day,
A beast howls in aloofness as darkness pitches black…
Doubts start to peep behind life, tend to double back;
But living goes on and on and it happens ev’ryday,
Memories lie stored in the mind refusing to die away;
How do I mask my vulnerability and my truth?
I was a natty little child with emotions for him to soothe:
Father time lumbers on tapering my living soul to cope,
The stars blink, in a flicker of light as I still hold on to hope!

Somnath Sarkar Poem
I pursue my inner strength not to be superior to others,
It is but to fight my supreme foe: I myself and not my brothers;
Make me always ready to come to you….O God !
With clean hands and straight eyes so when my life fades,to where it came,
As the fading sunset, my spirit may also come to you without shame!!

Somnath Sarkar Poem
It’s just become almost an usual ache,
At night longing for rest, I stay awake;
Sleep accosts me hardly ever these days,
As I keep on tossing indifferent ways;
Slumber remains aloof and disdainful….
I coax it to share my pillow, its rightful,
This way or that, my sleep plays coy,
My ploys are useless without any joy.
The night turns me helpless with desire….
Shuteye eludes the clock ticks on, in mire;
Known and alien faces make their rounds-
Seamlessly the day makes up lost grounds.
I don't know why I cannot sleep, it’s a dread,
Slowly I stagger out of the hot rumpled bed.
Restless nights take me to my cabinet of stocks….
I’ll perhaps have some McCallan upon the rocks;
And hope its charm will work and do the trick~
I just need to get some bagful of sleep, thick.
As the skies show traces of colour of the dawn……
The stars dip their light slowly,the moon too gone;
Ah, to sleep to sleep, ‘as my eyelids dips over fast -
The mind on fire,on the bed I fall back, asleep at last!!

Somnath Sarkar Poem
To place words in certain sections
To position truth in some directions;
As an inner poise truth is part of creation
It is the same thing at the end or initiation!
No matter if you were beautiful or brilliant-
As a poet your skin colour will be irrelevant.
Poems are just lexes of life’s lie and truth!!
The reality of poems is in life and its living,
It is the truth of what you learned, in giving;
It’s empathy of the world of what you taught,
Of Truth, there’s no past or future to plot;
It is now, today, what it is, absolute and pure;
They say they want the truth, supreme and sure~
Others, they can't handle the truth the poems say-
Hope, trust and love, the three axioms of life’s way;
My verses just walk in my head that I keep hearing,
Speaking about life, that I’ve seen or just perceiving.
Poems…the truth less ring of lie or the rich era of youth,
As true as the jingle of the falling rains...the sound of truth!!

Somnath Sarkar Poem
Die we must all someday,
Live we must all today….
Those who must, live and die;
An equal tie that my soul defy!
A genesis it is to live or to die,
Over it, I wonder, a foe or an ally?
Pondering, I’m a fool you see..
No one knows more than me!
If the stars must live in eternity
If the sun can sail with temerity
Old man time then trudges on
Just forever I’ll follow the dawn!!
Take me through the door,
Of the warm darkened floor…
Intrigued, wondering, askance;
To live or to die, which is a chance?
