Broke

Here lies my wallet.
On my desk he sleeps.
His malnourished stomach’s
been empty for weeks.

No family survived him.
There is only me,
With no way to pay off
his burial fee.

I Would Have Written This Poem

I would have written this poem, but all the words grew feet.
I opened MS Word, they turned and ran right off the sheet.
I looked for them on Facebook. Not a word in sight.
There wasn’t one on TV. Believe me, I looked all night.

I checked inside the Play Station, I went through every game.
They weren’t inside my iPhone, I texted every name.
I grew tired, walked to bed. On the sheets I found a note.
“Vacation in Mexico. We’ll send a postcard from the boat."

My Cat, Motivation

My cat Motivation,
only moves when she’s attacked
by my old dog Ambition.
We keep him out back.

My snake’s called Potential.
I’m afraid he’ll get loose.
My turtle Confidence
is a lonely recluse.

I had a hamster named Past,
But he bit me too much.
My goldfish, the Future?
Gone in a flush.

Plan B

I sit, think; catch a quick wink as the ship sinks.
My instinct is to lip sync till the slip’s pink.
Can’t win fights when my chin swipes reach only shin height.
And when kin likes taking Schwinn bikes to my wind pipe.
It’s useless. I’m an aloof spruce, I’m fruitless.
The looseness of nooses is becoming a nuisance.
Screw this. Hope has gone the way of the dodos.
I pack my bindle full of beans and hop a train with the hobos.

Barred

Barred

I see her there next to the jukebox.
I see him alone at the bar.
Damn, she looks good in that outfit.
Look at the size of his arms.

How can I get his attention?
Perhaps I should buy her a beer.
Why am I feeling so nervous?
Why am I filled with this fear?

I bet she’s already been taken.
He must have found someone to love.
I bet that she thinks I’m a loser.
I must not be attractive enough.

Screw it—there’s no point in trying.
Forget it— I’m just going home.
I guess I can see what’s on Netflix.
I guess I’ll watch Netflix alone.

Coffee

Why do I drink coffee?
It always makes me poo.
And when I smell that steaming turd,
it makes me think of you.

As you float there in the water,
I like to think you’re dead.
I pretend that I have killed you,
that I pinched off your head.

So I Dream

I'm available--
exposed.
Caught in the crossfire
of handshakes and smiles.
The smoke grips my lungs.

I cannot oblige.
I will not oblige.

So I dream.
I elope with restlessness
into the fluid incubator.
I build my own prison
where I can be free.
