Silent Sounds

I hate that
chirp chirp chirping
of the crickets
that keep time
to the rhythm of the moments
that always pass to slow.
Chirp... chirp... chirping
through the window
as if they are sending spiteful spirits
to my ears to beat on the drum
bouncing off the walls of my room
then off the walls of my skull
because I've never opened my back door
to welcome them.
They think it's their right to enter.
Their knocks on the glass translate to a
chirp chirp chirping
and it won't stop until I say "Come in"...
They scare me.
They are small but they scare me.
So I don't open the door.
Instead I cover my head under the pillow
Then realize that the
chirp chirp chirping
is all in my head.

He read a poem
I wrote yesterday
and told me it was great
So I liked him

He read a poem
I wrote a year ago
and told me it was awful
So I loved him
