The Ocean

The Ocean is wet
It is really, really wet
No, seriously.

Tidal Waves

I broke my foot, and you kissed me that night, in front of my car.
I could barely walk, but I floated away.
It all began and ended, as powerful as a hurricane.
What we had was taken too soon, and your mother didn’t approve.
She never did like me much, but that didn’t stop you.
We blossomed, like a flower on a warm sunny day.
Until that fateful day when I heard the news.
There had been an accident. The driver didn’t see you.
Frozen in time, as I was informed of your demise.
I couldn’t move, as my heart sank to the depths of the cold dark ocean.
Frost bitten, as time stood still.
Ship wrecked as my world came crashing down.
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
I couldn’t believe this was the end.
I couldn’t believe you were gone.
Emotion like waves crashing and turning.
By the time my foot healed, you were gone.
The funeral came and everything blurred together.
Your art on display, a museum dedicated to you.
Your mother, finally recognized me, as I looked over you laying there.
I’ll never forget the pain in her eyes, as she thanked me and apologized.
This ship has run aground, unable to ever sail again.

The Plot Iambic Revision

Upon a time, a story once composed.
Across the pages dancing letters waltz.
Met eyes. Together, him and her apposed.
The villain, against them, inflict assaults.
It leaves us guessing, due to twists and turns.
However, does the hero save the girl?
Distressing times until the girl returns.
A fight against a dragon, swords unfurl.
Heroic. Saves the girl, and dragon slain.
Afraid no longer. Village folk’s delight.
Wedding. Love is true. Continue to reign.
Espoused, and she is pregnant. Future bright.
Life is less a book, and scripts offhanded.
Plotless stories. Rules unwritten. Candid.

Love Me Mercilessly - Revised

Ring, hot, like a brand against my skin.
Agonizing, as it permanently leaves its mark.
I covet you. I crave you. I need you.
I want your love to burn me to the core.
Suffocate me. Breathe you in, fill my lungs, gasping, drowning, euphoric.
Bring me to the brink of death, with the tips of your fingers.
Your gaze pierces me like a knife.
My tortured heart beats as if its only mission is to escape its cell.
Cut down deep. Expose this frail beating heart.
Lips like cyanide; seeped through my veins, left lifeless, encompassed, lost in your kiss.
I gave you my life, and you loved me mercilessly.
Take me, destroy me, envelope me, we soon become one.
I am you. You are me. We are.
Your eulogy promises to be mine:
“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to honor a man.
A man who sacrificed himself in two little words, and a promise to become one with me.”
In sacrificial death, you took my life with your own two hands. Till death do us part.
Bury me, leave me where I cannot be found. I’ll never leave you.
Let my epitaph read “Here lies the man who lost himself, when he found you.”

Love Me Mercilessly

Hot, like a brand against my skin.
Agonizing, as it permanently leaves its mark for all to see.
I want you; I want your love to burn me to the core.
Your gaze pierces me like a knife as I beg for more.
Fill my lungs, let me breathe you in, gasping, drowning, euphoric.
Bring me to the brink of death, with the tips of your fingers.
My tortured heart beats as if its only mission is to escape its cell.
Lips like cyanide; seeped through my veins, left lifeless, encompassed, lost in your kiss.

Love Me Mercilessly - Revised - Final

Love Me Mercilessly
This ring, hot, like a brand against my skin.
Agonizing, blissful, as it permanently leaves its mark.
I covet you. I crave you. I need you.
I want your love to burn right through me.
Suffocate me. Breathe you in, fill my lungs, gasping, drowning, euphoric.
Bring me to the brink of death, with the tips of your fingers. Touch me.
Lips like cyanide; seeped through my veins, encompassed, lost in your kiss.
Your gaze pierces me like a knife.
My tortured heart beats as if its only mission is to escape its cell.
Cut down deep. Expose this frail beating heart.

Sunshine

Shining your light on the clock as if to offer a begging child a loaf of bread.
Always out of reach, grasping tightly for fear of loss.
*
Regal.
*
Antagonizing the clock, begging for darkness. For the sun’s kiss to set behind the
Hills. Seconds passing by, like a hammer pounding a nail into stone. Tick, tick, tick, tick.

Goodnight. Goodbye.
*
Encompassing all but the deepest, darkest crevices.
Reaching every darkest secret.
*
Keep shining bright, sun in the sky, into a new day, full of new hopes.
Even the clock has hopes for his time, to bask in the sunshine.

Working Man - Revised

This man cannot grasp
His task at hand.
With fervor he tries
Diligently.
Trying, working, his
Sweat soaks his brow.
It is getting dark.
What will he do?
He tries to finish
But, can’t get it.
The sun sets, time runs
Out, defeated.
Time to pack it in.
He bows his head.
Maybe next time, he
Thinks to himself.
With a last big sigh,
He lays to rest.
For soon the morning
Breathes new attempts.

Raggedy Man

Goodbye.
Alone, and sad. He swings.
Fearing a future, dreading his past.

What comes next? What happened?

His eyes full of a thousand years worth of the pain of loss.
Hands knitted together, one grasping the other.
Feet dangling helplessly inches above the ground.

His mind races
Everything else around him slows to a stop and fades to nothing.

That one moment, that changed everything
Eats him alive from the inside out.
Why did it have to be this way?

What could he have done to stop it?
Would it have even mattered?
He could save the world, and solve any problem.
But, is it worth it? When he can’t save himself?
