What You Used To Say and Do

Bumps and bruises you would kiss
My fears you sent away
When you tucked me in at night
Often beside me, you would lay
When someone broke my heart
"Their loss," you would say
My tears you wiped away
Someday I won't be here
You would often say
I would quickly dismiss it
Roll my eyes
And walk away
Then one day the doctors words
I'm sorry
There is nothing else we can do
We will keep her comfortable
The rest is up to you
I kissed your bumps and bruises
And tried to ease your pain
I asked you not to leave me
Please don't go away
But it was not your choice to make
You said you did not want to leave me
But I would never be alone
Now our time together
Has come and gone away
Much to my dismay
And all I have is memories
Of what you used to do and say.....

May of '75

It All Started May 2, 1975
The Day This Man
Took This Woman
To Be His Lawfully Wedded Wife

They Saw Their Share Of Struggles,Grief, Hardships, and Strife
But Hand In Hand
They Faced The World
Together
This Man And His Wife

The Cards Were Stacked Against Them
An Uphill Battle It Often Seemed
They Did Not Have A Fairytale
But In The End
Love Would Prevail
Between This Woman And This Man

Thirty Years They Shared Together
For Richer Or For Poorer
In Sickness And In Health
In Good Times And In Bad
Before This Man Would Pass Away
Right In Front Of His Wife

How Would This Woman Go On
Not Knowing What To Do
How To Make A Single Cup Of Coffee
Or Just One Plate Of Food
How Could She Bare Waking Up To An Empty Room

She Grieved Tirelessly
She Often Questioned Why
Why She Had Been Left Behind
This Woman Who For Thirty Years
Had Been This Man's Wife

She Had To Find Her Strength Within
And Her Will To Go On
She Had To Comfort Her Children
And Learn To Lean On God

Although She Never Stopped Loving This Man
Eventually
She Would Find Peace
Though It Was Not Easy
She Learned To Live Life Without Him
Though It Was Never Part Of The Plan
On That Day In Early May of 1975
When These Two Were Wed
This Man And His Wife

Sometimes Things Will Happen
Even Though We Did Not Plan
Things We Can Not Fathom
Things We Will Never Understand

The Time Came
Two Short Years Later
When The Doctors Came
And Told This Woman
We Are Sorry
It Is CANCER

Now The Children
Of This Man And His Wife
Would Have To Find Their Own Answers
With No Parents Their To Guide Them
Give Them Comfort
Or Advice
They Would Be Left With Their Own Questions
Of How...
And WHY...

Hypocrisy

Hypocrisy
Lack of sincerity
Inner struggles
Outer too
Looking up
Falling down
Nowhere to turn
Spinning around
Crying out
In silent screams
Wide awake nightmares
Living the dream
Praying to God
Surrounded by demons
When will it end
Peace be with me

Precious Momma

Snatched up and wisked away
In the blink of an eye
It's all my fault
I shouldn't have screamed
I shouldn't have cried

The second the hitting began
It was forgiven
After all this was no horrible monster
This is precious momma
She never meant to hurt me
It was herself she hated
Don't worry precious momma
Your baby will not betray you

I'm in a new place
New faces
All kinds of kids
Asking too many questions
What's your story, kid
Oh, you just got hit
I was robbed
My dad and his friend stole my innocence

Why am I here
What have they done
Don't they know precious momma needs me
I'm her number one
I hope she still wants me
After all this trouble I caused

If I'm not there to take the man his money
How will precious momma get her medicine
I hope she knows how much I love her
How truly sorry I am

Finally
We saw the judge today
He said I can go home
I don't have to stay
I can't wait to be with precious momma
And out of this place

I kept my promise this time,
Precious momma
I did not scream or cry
Maybe that is why the angels came
And wisked me away
In the blink of an eye

Don't worry, precious momma
I'm with Jesus now
He says I have to stay
But HE will be watching you
