Sylvia Chika Poem
I mean you no harm
I just want to soothe the pain like a balm
And cause you to be calm
Here, take my hand
Let’s sit here and listen to the band
Let’s watch them play our favorite song
Oh…it’s been soooo long!
They play music so good
It feeds my soul like food
Here we are at night
Listening to good Christmas tunes under the moonlight
I know how sad you are
You gaze at me but you seem so far
Don’t let a broken heart cause you to forget…
…to forget the sweet melody of life
Cast away the knife
Don’t bruise your heart some more
Let the tears pour
But don’t let them pour forever
Don’t let them win…never!
Look…you are worth more that diamonds
I can write this on the wall with crayons
“You are beautiful!
You are loved!
You are strong!
You are blessed!
You will be fine!
This too shall pass!”
So, cheer up
Chin up
Don’t give up
You will be fine
Just give it time
In the meantime…
…let’s sway to this beautiful Christmas melody
Oh! Such sweet sweet melody!
You will be fine, my darling!
You will be fine!

Sylvia Chika Poem
Cast me not away
Ye gentle soul, my love
Lead me to the beach
Where our love began and bloomed
Cradle my fragile wrists
In your strong and loving grip
Call me yours again
Bid me to you and I shall yield
Few hours to the vow
To be yours and only yours
I long to see you so
I long to hear you coo my name
Upon my pillows I lay
With tender thoughts of you and me
Uncountable wishes
My gentle heart
I melt into my satin sheets
A man for me
A bride to be
My wishes never end
Alas, I hear of your trip back to town
My finest dress of lace I wear
Fingers groomed
Hair tamed
A scent unforgettable shall steal your heart away
I lean against my window so
Knowing my gate shall be your path
I wave my hands
You smile so bright
And then the story continues to roll

Sylvia Chika Poem
Billy, let’s be kind
Good hearts we’ll find
Let’s renew our minds
We’ll make merry and dine
It will all be fine
Hey!
Do not check the time!
I have no desire to hear the clock chime
There’s no hurry
I’m not sorry
There is too much pain
So many insane
Oh! How pretty the world would be
If truly we can see
The ones around us
And show some love with no fuss
If only we can take a pause
And truly look around us
To see the ones in tears
And the ones battling fears
To love the unloved
And call them, “Beloved”
To give a loaf of bread
To the hungry before they are declared dead
To speak kind words
Regardless of the bitterness in this world
To go the extra mile
With a smile
Even when their hearts are filled with bile
To be kind
Even when the reasons are hard to find
If only
If only
We’ll be agents of goodness
In a world filled with so much darkness
We’ll all be filled with happiness
And chase away dark clouds of sadness

Sylvia Chika Poem
A soldier’s farewell
Heaven’s gain
Hearts broken
Words unspoken
A heavenly welcome
For a job well done
Great rejoicing in heaven
But the hearts of mortals are heavy
A hurricane of memories
The pain in our hearts…
…oh the pain!
Earth’s loss
Heaven’s gain
To serve in the flesh no more
But to be with The Father forever
A soldier’s farewell
A great story to tell
Troubled hearts, “It is well”…do not sorrow
For we will see him in the morrow
Take heart
Wash away the pain
With thoughts of the gain
Weep not again
Cos’ a soldier never dies
A soldier always lives
Because He lives

Sylvia Chika Poem
Grandpa has a car
A nice old red car
He loves to take it for a long drive
He calls the car, Missy
No one but Grandpa is allowed to take Missy for a drive
Grandpa has a cat
She is very furry and fat
She loves to eat the rats
I really don’t like cats
But I like Grandpa’s cat
Grandpa misses Grandma
He wrote her a song
She’s been gone for so long
I heard she’s dinning with the angels
I have never met my Grandma
My Grandpa is very old
His age I’ve not been told
I really do miss my Grandpa
He gives the best hugs
I can’t wait to visit Grandpa this Christmas!

Sylvia Chika Poem
I stare at you
You have no clue why
Some say I’m weird
I really don’t care
I stare
I’m not interested in your looks
I’ve read your books
I’m more interested in you
You
Simple yet complex
Full of mysteries
Full of tales
You get uncomfortable
I don’t care
I still stare
I drift away in thoughts
What would it feel like to see your world through your eyes?
To know the things you know
To see the things you see
To feel the things you feel
You smile almost all the time
But I see the tears no one sees
Your looks tell a different tale
Your books tell a different tale
But now that I see you
I see a different tale
I find you rather fascinating
I’m captivated by your complexity
You’ll make a good muse
Oh yes, that’s good use!
I stare just for a while
A little while longer
I drink in your aura of wisdom
Wise one you are
Smart too
You get uncomfortable
I shouldn’t care
But now I do
I’ve seen the truth
I’ve seen the sadness behind that smile
Pretty sad you!
I look away
And take a bow

Sylvia Chika Poem
Hey Poke!
Yes, you!
I can see your nose in my business
I’m not trying to be disrespectful
But, I can see your nose
Oh, it’s so big!
Don’t act surprised
Everyone knows
Look, there’s no place for your nose here
You can’t park it here
This is my space
Hey, this is no joke!
I can see you carrying a huge sack
All day long it’s on your back
You have a lot of garbage in your luggage
Sort out your own mess
And kindly take your nose with you
Please!
I’m so tired of seeing your nose in my business
I’m distracted by its bigness
Its size
It’s…huge!
I hear you are waiting to see me cry
I really don’t know why
I’m sorry to disappoint you
But please
Pretty please!

Sylvia Chika Poem
It was dusk
They were in a hurry
Paul, John, Jake and Larry
The darkness was creeping in
They lifted the earth
Covering the last piece of evidence
A wicked bunch of rebels
Young and foolish they were
They smiled at themselves
Mission accomplished!
Deeds buried!
Oh, how smart they were…
…or so they thought
They picked up their tools
And fled the scene of the crime
No one saw them
No one suspected a thing
No one in sight to judge their sin
No cause for alarm!
Off to their home
Straight to the shower
And ….to their beds
They shut their eyes
Happy with their success
Pay day was in a few hours
The boss would be so proud of them
But little did they know
That was just the beginning
The wind blew hard
As they snored their guilt away
The blanket of sand upon the earth was lifted high
The trees bowed down to welcome the rain
And then the rain poured
Weeping like a mother who had just lost her child
It poured
In anger…it poured
Uncovering every buried piece of evidence
Revealing the hidden evil
The earth, wind and rain formed a partnership
As the rebels snored away
The earth, wind and rain had a vision
They were determined to accomplish their mission…
…Oh, what a night it was!
And then the morning came
Everything naked
Everything revealed
Everyone saw it
Everyone knew it
All that was covered was now naked
Naked for all to see
Naked it was
Doomed they were

Sylvia Chika Poem
She ran!
Away from the noise
Away from all her troubles
Away from her sorrows
Away from their judgmental stares
The useless side talks
The back biting
She ran!
Away from it all
And into the warm embrace of the night
The road was lonely
But she cared not
It was just what she needed
The beauty of silence
Peace
She arrived at her destination
Her place of solace
Her favorite spot
Her favorite time of the day
The beach at night
Beautiful it was
She loved the beach at night
No one in sight
Just right!
She inhaled the salty air
And exhaled the foul air of strife
Just what she needed
It was cold
But she cared not
The peace felt like a warm blanket around her
She needed this
The ocean was magnificent
It brought joy to her soul
She smiled at its powerful waves
They beat hard against the face of the ocean
They spoke kind words to her
And approached her feet in submission
Kissing the shoreline
This thrilled her
She sat before it
Savoring her few hours of bliss and solitude
She looked up at the moon and smiled
The moon smiled back at her
Her night friend
He loved her frequent visits here
She loved them too
The perfect therapy!
She tried to bury all sad thoughts
The drama and pain she left behind
She deserved this peace
Tomorrow she’ll fight again
But tonight she would savor this beautiful view
And drink it all in…sweet peace!

Sylvia Chika Poem
Don’t tell me to be calm
Not after years of the palm
Years of running away from your palm
And then I see it coming again
Don’t you dare tell me to be calm!
I am no fool!
Your cup is full!
I’m no longer going to play the victim
Not with all these scars within
It’s been too long
This is not where I belong
Don’t you dare call me names!
Not after years of eating the canes
Your harsh words
Your demeaning words
Your violence
Your insolence
Don’t you dare!
I’m done being afraid
This me you made…
Hell no!
I have to go!
Don’t you dare come after me!
Don’t invite me for tea!
I’m done being your punching bag
Feel free to let your tongue wag
But don’t expect me back
You’ve left your mark
Big scars of sorrow
I won’t let you ruin my tomorrow
So, don’t you dare come after me!
I’m off to build a happier life for me
To be a better me without you
