To Philadelphia, Revelation 3: 7-13

This is 'His' letter,
to the Philadelphians,
and the angel there:

"The words of the one,
who is both holy and true.
I know all your works.

I hold David's key
and I have opened a door
which no one can shut

Your might may be small,
yet you haven't denied me.
You have kept my word.

I will bend their knees,
those who lie about their faith,
the church of Satan.

The wicked will learn
that it is you who I love
while down at your feet.

Patient endurance
this is my word you have kept
so you will be spared

You won't stand trial
unlike those who dwell on earth
when I come again.

I am coming soon.
Hold fast to the crown you have,
so no one may seize

The one who conquers,
will become like a pillar
within God's temple.

I will write three names
The name of God. My own name.
New Jerusalem.

He who has an ear
let him hear the Spirit speak
unto the churches.

Sunlight Love

You are like the sun
shining in brilliant beauty
but I cannot stare

Too close and I scorch
flaring passion sparks within
burning out my heart

Too far and I die
frozen cold in lifeless ice
I die without you

Beyond my control
I orbit, needing your warmth
I cannot approach

In the sunset glow
the red flows like my blood does
when gazing at you

I cry at night time
moonlight fails to reflect you
and my spirit fades

At sunrise I smile
because I can spend the day
before your presence

Long Rest - Contest - See Requiescat By Briton Riviere

Long Rest

(Contest entry)
(Requiescat by Briton Rivière)

Oh master why's your rest so long
     Command and I'll obey
You lay there post your victory
And at your side I'll stay

I seen them lift you from the field
     Of combat when you fell
My Knight you lay there peacefully
     Their treatment did you well

The soldiers armed from war they lay
     Your sword apon your chest
The peasants come and you they saw
     Completely battle dressed

Their eyes were filled with tears but I
     Attention will hold true
For my commander I will yield
     Respect that he is due

No movement yet, but I will wait
     Beside this makeshift bed
Until the moment you arise
To pat me on my head

I brace my paws my noble lord
     In hope that I'll prevail
My pride it becons me stand tall
     Instead my hind legs fail

Oh master why's your rest so long
     Command and I'll obey
You lay there post your victory
And at your side I'll stay

The Sculptor

I feel Him chip away at my flesh.
The vibrations shake to my bones.
Pieces that were once part of me now fall helplessly to the floor.

Every scrape of the chisel,
Every pound of the hammer,
Every piece that is broken from me stings with immense pain.

Why doesn't He stop?
Why is The Sculptor so cruel?
Doesn't He realize that each swing He takes is a nightmare to me?

I would be better off as stone that was never touched,
I would be more content without the suffering that comes apon me,
But I wouldn't be a work of art.

Each chip of the chisel is intended to remove a piece that shouldn't be there.
Each pound of the hammer is meant to force the hideous fragments far from me.
Each move The Sculptor makes, takes me closer to His plan for me.

I must trust, knowing that He never takes off too much.
I must be ready, knowing that He never leaves His work incomplete.
I must be thankful, knowing that I am being made beautiful in His eyes.

The acute pain is only a short part of His plan.
The lasting anguish fades in its own time.
Though heart, and soul, and body all grieve, the permanent state will be that of finished work.

I may not know the reason for each strike,
I may not know the fault with each sundered chunk,
And I may never know.

I know the sting of the chisel now,
I know The Sculptor has a plan,
My part is to trust that He will not work forever ... but that He will be done.

Foul Sisters

Bitterness holds me.
I do not like her embrace
because it is cold.

Her touch makes me rot
not outwardly, but inside
corrupting my soul.

Her wretched voice crows:
"Everyone else is crooked."
No one else speaks up.

I do not love her,
but when she is here with me
we see eye to eye.

She then reminds me:
"Condemnation will come soon."
I hate her also.

Together they drone
robbing me of any will
to get up and leave.

The sisters love me.
I withhold my affection,
yet they cling to me.

They each take a turn,
kissing me with rancid breath
and bugs in their hair.

I want far better.
I need better company,
yet I sit with them.

Crying Out - 1

Weighty sins grab me;
Crippling me from what I seek:
Close proximity.

On my own I fail,
without any scrap of worth.
I'm self defeating.

I scream out to you
with rage that strips my voice bare,
hoping that you hear.

There is no reply,
as if you abandoned me
to rot in my state.

Be swift to save me.
Be ready to lift me up.
Be quick to forgive.

I still feel the pain,
and hot anger tow-ard you,
though you are my health.

Replace my raw filth
that devastates every word,
keeping me from you.

Please don't hesitate
by delaying my rescue
because of my pride.

Your grace is life's breath.
Without it I suffocate
with it I'm sustained

Please answer my prayers
and forgive me of my sins.
Have me feel your love.

A River of Life

A river of life is what I seek
Because you alone satisfy my thirst
Clean me with the waters of your forgiveness
Douse me in the pool of your wonder
Every morning, your dew sits on my heart
Flow into the seams of my soul
Gush from me, the fountains of your peace
Hold me, as the ocean holds the ship
I need a deluge of your compassion
Just as the trees need the downpour
Kindness trickles from your hands
Lead me beside the still waters of your love
Make me float in a sea of your grace
Never to sink under the weight of the law
Open the dams that hold back your stream of blessings
Pour your gentleness over my head
Quietly fill me with the rain of your mercy
Rush upon me so that I am swept away with your favor
Saturate me with your Holy Spirit
Tears of joy drop from my eyes
Upward I dive, into your care.

Truth

My sin has made me
intolerably corrupt
deserving of death.

Jesus, you are God,
but you shared a sinner's fate
to remove its sting.

your resurrection
allows me to live through you,
in your righteousness.

I deserve your scorn,
yet your works, beyond my grasp,
are counted as mine.

How can we be saved?
-Confess our sin and believe,
trust in our savior.

You have drawn me in.
Your breath enters into me
making my heart beat.

You made me your son
with a full inheritance
that I don't deserve.

My Shadows

I sit in darkness.
I feel that you won't provide,
as if you left me.

I call out to you
as I would ask my own dad,
but you don't respond.

You said of fathers:
"They don't spurn, but give good gifts."
but I feel left out.

There must be a fault.
Though, it lies with me, not you.
You, God, do not fail.

I don't understand
Help me to hear in silence
to see through shadows.

When I am in pain
have the spa-sms not distract
and heal me within.

Your love is steadfast
despite my failure to feel.
Please, Jesus, bless me.

Need For a Close Relationship

I want to be close.
I want a relationship.
I want to be friends.

I want to hug you
without it being awkward,
as if we were kin.

I want to trust you
and be happy to see you,
to call you brother.

To sit beside you,
and not have a seat between
for my own comfort.

Where I am right now,
just giving you a hand shake,
isn't close enough.

In a crowded room,
my arm should be around you
and not at my sides.

I would call you up
and talk for hou'rs on end
with this connection

I wouldn't notice
if I forget appointments
or forget to eat.

To look in your eyes.
To maintain conversation
and not glance away

You should be valued
'cause you are that important.
We should be close friends.

No wall between us.
This is the closeness I need:
you, that near to me.
