A Haitian Child's Plea

A Haitian Child’s Plea

Today I walked around all day.
My feet hurt.
I have no clean water to drink.
I have nothing to eat.
I want to take a bath like any other boy does.
There is no clean water.
I just want to be a kid.
Over head is a helicopter
hovering over me and I doubt they’ll help us.
I miss my family and that’s all I can think about.

Me a Poem About My Illness

Me a poem about my Illness

I always needed someone’s help…
My mom was the one who I confided in and knew I could trust.
I never could do the ‘solo’ thang but that is changing.
I desire so much to become Independent in areas other than mind and thought; to be self-suffiicient by age 35.
Ah but cruel reality and the twists of Fate.
I have Schizophrenia a mental illness that affects my life it has to do with my brain.
I may become a so-called poet, I mean I am already a semi-finalist in a Poetry Contest right?
I am Creative but I sometimes wonder how successful will actually become at my goals and aspirations?
I credit where I am right now to the Lord, perseverance, my mom, loved ones, NAMI and my effort(tries).

Picture Frames

Picture Frames a poem

Children in families,
Grandmothers, mothers, fathers and grandchildren alike.

Memories, keepsakes found in pictures in Picture Frames.

Look at our Esha(Ayesha) she was 8 in this picture and here she is 10 years old in this other framed picture and;
She was 26 years of age in her most recent important picture taken at her community college graduation.

Ayesha will be 32 or 33 years old when she takes her Senior Portraits she’ll take them next year for her 4-year college commemoration. She will have a nice headshot in a white silk dress or a drape in Tower Yearbook along with her graduating class of 2014.

Our Esha the soon-to-be college graduate with so many memories of her childhood and difficult adolescent years.

Mom, step-dad Neil, grandmother, a few great-aunts and cousins on Esha’s mother’s side will be so happy for her.

Choose To Be Happy

Choose to be Happy

I am happy because I choose to be; my life is far from perfect.

Others are content but I make conscious choices to be Happy and to be a positive person.

You don’t have to be rich or have a lot of money and material wealth to be happy.

Many wealthy people are poor in Spirit with all the money, fame and things that they have.

This Christmas Eve night as I write this poem I think about how I manage my money focusing on my needs first and then my wants.

I ask myself: Can I afford that? Do I need this? Can I wait for the store price to go down and get that dress on sale?

I hope that once I am financially stable with a decent job I can have a coat drive for kids age 1 through 16 in Trenton, New Jersey when every boy and girl gets a cute new coat and I hope that my story inspires others my battle with mental illness over 19 years…

I Can Sing

I Can Sing

I sing
a voice like an angel.
Some call me a songbird.
A melody,
Sweet singing and soft sounds
Come from my lips.
High.
Low.
Medium.
Not quite a Mariah Carey or a Whitney Huston “yet”.
I lift my hands and I use my body.
I tap my feet to the beat.
I stand tall like a tree and plant my feet hip width apart.
I open my mouth and out comes music.

Me and the Mirror

Me and the mirror

Mirror Mirror what do you see?

I see Esha.

I see Esha only 40 pounds lighter wanting to lose 20 or 30 more pounds for herself.

I see my rich espresso skin color.

I see my clear glowing skin after putting baby oil all over my body.

I see myself and I am happy so I smile.

I love my full figured-ness.

I want to wear clothing from an Ashley Stewart boutique and costume jewelry too.

I want to wear the faux pearls I already own sometimes too.

I want to organize my closet and winter waldrobe.

I see myself in a red Ashley Stewart sweater dress next January when my 32nd birthday comes around and having a ball with my best girlfriends Window shoppin’ at the mall and buying lipsticks and perfume.

You Inspire Me

You Inspire Me

What inspires me?

A song lyric-------a brave, determined person (Man or Woman)

A gifted child

An Innovator, innovators are individuals that are firsts to do something.

That inspires me and by the way…

O mother you inspire me (most of all)!

Perseverance

Perseverance: a poem

Long ago or should I say sometime in the past?

I had dreams and now at the age of 31 I have realized most of them.

It’s funny how good luck; joy, pain, rejection, effort and ‘Perseverance’ with a capitol ‘P’ have played a part in my life and sealed my Fate.

I now choose to think more positive thoughts even though this is still hard for me when I hear a negative voice in my head or when I hear people say negative things about me.

Those things hurt me and stay with me until I let it go.
I am self-motivated and I was a star pupil in my memories of my childhood.

My main goal is to be able to take care of myself, be responsible for myself and for the choices I make in life.

I am finishing school next January ’14 with my Bachelor’s degree and I want to find a good Internship.

Then after that I want to have a part-time job working 20 to 25 hours per week and continue doing volunteer work.

Oh and poems, I will keep writing my poems and reading other people’s poetry. Right now I am reading LIT a memoir by Mary Karr. I also want to write children’s books.
