Monsters Under the Bed

There are monsters under my bed
"Don't be silly!" mum and dad said
But there are you see, and they come out at night
They snarl and growl and give me a terrible fright
You can't see them, they're just there for me
They eat my cookies and slurp upo my tea
I can't get to sleep for the noise that they make
I tell them "Shut up!", but they laugh and make the bed shake
Oh what can I do to get rid of these fiends
They're smelly and ugly and frightfully mean
My big brother comes in and asks me "what's wrong?"
I tell him the monsters have been there too long
He takes a look under the bed, turns to me me, and then he says
"There are no monsters under your bed, you silly thing they're all in your head"
No way, I say, I know what I see
"well take a look now then" he says to me
So I do, and what do I see, myy ginger kitten slurping my tea!
No more monsters, not one in sight
So I snuggle upand turn off the light
I cuddle my kitten and say goodnight!

Hollow

If you could cut me open, look deep inside you'd see
A heart that's long forgotten, what true love should be
You'd find my heart all crumpled, beaten black and blue
If it could tell a story, here's what it would say to you
You took me in my glory, you took me in my prime
I really thought we'd make it, stand the test of time
But now you've left me brokenjust a hollow shell
I feel as if you've chewed me up and spat me straight to hell,
If you could see inside my brain, it's muddled and confused,
It feels all kind of mushy, all battered up and bruised,
But I know that they wil heal up
But that it may take some time,
But at least I know that, however badly messed up, they both are truly mine.

Drudgery

A little too much of my time I must say
Is taken up with the druge of the day
The cleaning, the cookin, the beating the mat
All of the ironing and washing the cat
How boring, how tedious, when will it end
I try to sit down but get up again
Oh when, oh when will this drudgery end?
Oh there's the doorbell, who can it be?
Oh, it must be the children, they'll be after their tea
Wash up, dry up, then put it all away
Hurry up bedtime, that's all I can say
I'll gat a new job, if I ever get the time
All that I really want is my pen and to rhyme
Well to bed now I must have a rest
Forget about the children and all of their mess!

If You Could Look Straight Through Me

If you could look straight through me, and look into my soul
You'd see a heart that once held love ripped to shreds and torn apart
You'd see a heart that once was strong, so hard it's turned to stone
If you could see straight through me, and see inside my head
You'd find all the good memories in ashes, charred and dead
Could there be a remedy, is there any cure
to overcome the hurt and hate we've put each other through
To think we'll never love again, not a love that's true
It all seems such a waste now, so evil and so cruel
It's as if love has taken us and turned us into fools
We did not treat it with respect, we've broken all the rules
We had the best intentions but maybe not the tools
If you could look straight through me, looked deep into my eyes
You'd see the pain and sadness
You'd see a fire that's died
A spark can so suddenly be turned into a flame
But then just as suddenly, be put out again

Mum

Iv'e loved you from the moment I was placed in your arms
And since that very moment you've shielded me from harm
You're the one that Iv'e looked up to
The one that I truly adore,
You have made me realise that that's what mum's are for
I love you now and always,
Forever and a day
Just be you forever and never go away.

All That I Was

The fear and hurt both fade away, as I open my eyes to the cold light of day
Was it only 24 hours ago that you told me it's over, that I had to go?
How stupid was I to think your love was true
All of those years wasted with you
Well I shall not worry, won;t sit here and cry
What did you think, that Id' curl up and die?
Never again a fool will I be to love someone who never loved me
And one day you will be the one left to cry
And when that day comes, you'll think of me
All that I was and all I could be
So run along and start your new life, tell her you love her, ask will she be your wife?
For it won;t take me long do you finally see, to get over you as you have done me

To Mend

The tears may come, stream down your face
But what's the point if there's no trace
No one else can see the pain; see what you're going through
But what if they were to tell you, we know, we've been there too
We are all the same you see, beneath this weathered skin
For love it has no reason, nowhere to begin
And to further that beginning, there really is no end
So do to me, as I to you, and help that broken heart to mend
