David Nelson Poem
Gold Digger
now I'm not saying she's a gold digger
but her hands are in my pants pants pants
and I'm thinking as far as I can figure
she's not asking me to dance dance dance
cause the only tune I can hear playing
is the one that's in my head head head
and she's not skinny but she keeps saying
honey I need some bread bread bread
only last week she was begging me
she's needing cash for her sister sister sister
in my pocket once again you see
surprised her hand isn't one blister blister blister
I tell her go away you fool
you're not coning me this time time time
then she cries saying I'm not cool
the way you treat me is a crime crime crime
that's a lie and you know it honey
I give you everything you need need need
but all you seem to want is my money
I'm not a turnip and I bleed bleed bleed
so I'm not saying she's a gold digger
but her hands are always in my pants pants pants
and I'm thinking as far as I can figure
she's still not asking me to dance dance dance

David Nelson Poem
The Monkey's Uncle
I'm french fried
freeze dried
pour tabasco on top
if you think I lied
if I look your way
I will go astray
pat the monkey's head
every night and day
you drive me mad
with your beautiful smile
for one of your kisses
I would walk a mile
sometimes sassy
with a sharp wit
work the fancy words
rub your hands with spit
a pound of clay
a box of sand
I can spank that monkey
with either hand
hair of gold
hot and cold
motorcycle mama
but it's been sold
likes to dance
when given a chance
has a frequent fire
inside her pants
keeps my head
in constant flux
spinning in circles
that sure sucks
it's my own fault
I'm a carbuncle
stay where you belong
I'm the Monkey's uncle

David Nelson Poem
Sands of Time
these grains of sand passing by I find
are like the memories of lives gone past
and as these sands of time flow through my mind
I wonder when I will find the key at last
living in caves searching the heavens
fishing in streams and hunting my meals
and each morning as the sun star leavens
my mind turns like stone age wheels
a million years have come and gone
I suppose a million more will pass on by
the age of man has hardly dawn
I look up and wonder why
why am I here just what is my purpose
sometimes I feel this is such a cruel game
in this ring of a crazy circus
am I a fool should I feel some shame
some say just keeping faith is all you need
I think that's a hopeful guess
you cannot know from where came the seed
it is impossible to say truly yes
many before me and yet more will come
to trudge through the desert of life
the sands of time shifting beat like a drum
and we dance on to music from the fife
I can only hope that when I have gone
no one will shake their heads and say
he followed in line just like a pawn
retracing steps of another day
once again I look to the sky
ever searching for inspiration devine
feeling tears fall from my eye
tears of all mankind not just mine

David Nelson Poem
Newton's Law
I put it in motion moving in space
the classic mechanics with egg on it's face
it is your basic movement of virtual action
every single cause has a reaction
if you push you get pull in the inverse
back and forth forward then reverse
too many challenges can burn itself out
momentum building creating the doubt
a message was sent could not be retracted
bodies in motion over reacted
gravitational pull increases acceleration
now sitting alone no participation
will the owner of the souls ever return
or am I left out here alone to burn
should have thought sooner before releasing the arrow
she has been injured clipped the wing of the sparrow
now searching for remedies everywhere rootin
trying to reach Sir Isaac Newton
return the bodies to orbit each other
just like before like sister and brother

David Nelson Poem
Purple Cow
I've never seen a purple cow
though I have been inside a purple haze
things are different between then and now
when I stumbled around for many dayz
standing in corners watching the crowd
yellow barrels of sunshine enlightened view
Mr Hendrix's Watchtower 90 decibels loud
smiling faces thinking that we really knew
it seemed so simple peace and love
not very real but I so miss those times
burn the bra olive branch and dove
now I just sit and think up rhymes
Dylan's monotone with catchy words
Gracie had her rabbit of white
he was a friend of mine sang out the Byrds
another hit of fresh air tonite
Vietnam changed things so much
yet still again the money rules
you would have thought we had the touch
but once again we are the fools
so maybe it is time once again
to raise up our voices and show them how
we will not just stand around and grin
maybe it's time to see that purple cow

David Nelson Poem
Sopdet
the ancients worshiped this light in the sky
so far away but so bright to the eye
the calender created by Egyptian kings
rising high revered like golden rings
the duat of their underworld passed
Isis and Osiris in the galaxy so vast
shining down with a curious smile
marked the flooding of the Nile
so very close yet still so far
less than 9 light years to this star
she is binary in number having a mate
though a white dwarf now can no longer relate
she was just as important to many other cultures
Greeks and Polynesians claiming like vultures
this dog of the night caused men to weakly tilt
aroused the women and made the plants wilt
somewhere in the future she will bid adieu
as the galaxies shift and are born anew
this pair of lovers must say goodbye
this Sirius watchers of our night sky

David Nelson Poem
Goodnight Mrs Calabash
I hope to see you again real soon
the time we spend together makes me smile
I try to keep it very simple with her
but I am in love with her all the while
it's just that I respected her man
he was a good friend of mine
and he only passed away barely a year
but I dream of her all the time
we go for long walks in the park
feed crumbs to the squirrels and ducks
stop for an ice cream soda or coffee
I barely spend a couple of bucks
her name is Melanie a beautiful name
but I have a hard time calling her that
I had known her and her husband Max
and given them a dog and a cat
we went to movies and dances together
for all of those many years
I would find me a date to bring
maybe stop on the way home for beers
I never had married don't know why
just didn't seem to be my thing
sometimes we go to a Karaoke bar
get silly laugh and sing
I think I always knew Melanie was for me
just wouldn't admit such a thing
but now as the days pass me by
I'm thinking of buying her a ring
will she accept my love for her
or will she think I'm just talking trash
until I feel the answer is yes
I'll keep saying goodnight Mrs Calabash

David Nelson Poem
Linger with me a while
why must you always go
why can't you just lay here by me
feeling the warmth of our hearts together
treasuring every precious moment we can steal
the fire burns so intense
yet you find it hard to tell me
the words are there but tumble free so seldom
close your eyes and breathe in the two of us
sip the wine of our love
feel the bubbles of our kisses float
whisper the thoughts that touch your soul
hold me close and linger with me a while

David Nelson Poem
the girl with kaleidoscope eyes
so many colors and so much love
this lady of beautiful smiles
her eyes seeking direction from heaven above
I can hear her sighs over all of these miles
the appearance disguised in a world of gray
but if you look deeper you will surmise
these windows to her soul with volumes to say
she's the girl with kaleidoscope eyes
she gave to me all including her heart
so much more than I could ever expect
her soft touch seduced me from the start
the memories of her I will forever collect

David Nelson Poem
100 Billion Stars
our galaxy of beauty as I gaze up to the sky
the creator shares this awesome sight with you and I
more than 100 billion stars in just this view alone
100 billion more just like it though not a perfect clone
and who knows how many more that we cannot see
the universe goes on and on it seems so endlessly
how can we ever begin to understand the reason
changing ever so slowly season after season
there seems to be no beginning and we still search for the end
I would like to search this world with you my special friend
my small mind cannot comprehend I have no single clue
I can only wonder and share these thoughts with you
