Night In the City

With a sprightly gait and a bag full of dreams
I confront this concrete jungle, uncharted as it seems
Like a maiden with a sparkle in her eyes
Luring with beautiful lies
A smile, giving light to darkening skies
A cheeriness that utter strife belies

Neon lights, head lights, street lights, city lights
In broad night light, who needs a flash light?
Being here, it feels right
Find love, I just might
Blurry yet so bright
Fleeting, soon it takes flight

Like a graffiti of colours
Brilliant and belligerent
Lights dancing at night hours
Radiant and iridescent
By music in the moonlight, I am happily greeted
A breezy tranquility, sonorously interrupted

A Celestial Conversation

A CELESTIAL CONVERSATION

Once I had an uncommon privilege
Standing before me was a celestial apparition
Who, despite my sins, bordering on sacrilege
Offered to relieve me of my heart’s confusion

“Why” I asked “is there on this earth
An abundance of evil, a preponderance of gloom
Suffering and sickness, delusion and death
Lives careening on the brink of foretold doom

Illusions of splendor an inspiration to men
Who toil all their lives as slaves to a scheme
Designed of course by creatures of their kin
A theater of sorts, having all but an earnest theme”

“Hear” the voice of the celestial life form came
“That you may learn and tell to all whom you encounter
The folly of man justifies its fame
Even in the heavens, where derision meets the matter

Consider the strength with which you are endowed
The capacity to create, the power to discern
Like others of its kind, suffering thrives where it is allowed
Death has no hold where an attention it fails to earn

Rid yourself of the cloak of selfishness and greed
Let your pursuit of knowledge precede that of wealth
Greatness grows, the thrust for truth its prime seed
“I hope with these” the voice said “I have helped you heart’s health”

To Elfrida My Love

To Elfrida my love

To thee that I love, adore and cherish
From a heart heavy with the burden of contrition
Proceedeth these words that I may obtain restitution
Of thy pure and undying love, lest I perish

The evil that men doth contemplate
Mine sire in the ranks and his councilors too
Bears the fruit of treachery as they have determined so
That thou be incarcerated on account of thy lowly estate

At the behest of the vicar was I summoned
Who sent a herald to report the theft of the sacred urn
Hurriedly I heeded as duty beckoned
And only learnt of thy misfortune at my return

Was it not I, the slayer of the mighty beast
Who along with my trusted cavalry
Swore before thy father, to love and protect thee
Though among men of substance he is the least

Despair not therefore, o fairest Elfrida
For my love like the sun, shining bright as ever
Compels me to fight as I now take up arms
So that soon I may once again hold you in my arms

The Dreamer

There is whirlpool in my head
A storm of unformed thoughts
A gallery of fleeting images
A staccato of blaring sounds

Arms outstretched I reach for a dream
Amidst a million divergent voices
Here’s my intelligence playing tricks on me
Damn the metaphors and speak plainly

Head in the clouds i reach for that dream
Till the calming of stormy thoughts
When pictures of perfection light up my mind
And crystallized serenity is attained
