The Talking Outhouse

I passed by the privy one day
and heard this voice that came my way.
I looked all around and way out yonder,
stood there awhile and had to ponder.
Someone was calling my name so free,
but who in the world could it be?
the door to the house was open a mite,
I shut the door and latched it tight.
I turned my back to continue my walk,
then came the voice, "Would you like to talk?"
I couldn't believe it, how could it be?
This Old Outhouse was talking to me.
I opened the door and took a seat,
the catalog on the wall beckoned to me.
What wondrous things my eyes behold,
in the book of treasures it's pages foretold.
I know then the friendship would last,
as we talked of things left in the past.
Moral: Never throw caution to the wind.
you'll never know who you may befriend!

My Lost Friend

I often wonder where you are
For you are distant in the stars.
But I will search all through the night
I know your there just out of sight.
One star will twinkle of them all
To become the brightest as it falls.
I'll watch it guild in all it's bliss
And at that moment make my wish.
As it fades in all it's hue
My faithful friend I'll know it's you.

Lost Loves Question

Shadows in my mind drift by
Love once knew did I try?
If I could return to my yesterday
Could a difference really be made?
These are shadows I'll always carry
For love is a search I will not tarry.

Shadows of My Soul

The shadows of my soul
are ones I fear will show.
I've lived my life each day
chasing them away.

I have pushed and pulled
my cross in life.
Walked it through
the darkest night.

Many times I came to thee
with my love, bent my knee.
Tears today gone tomorrow
you carried away all my sorrow.

You've been there with me
my faithful friend.
Holding my hand
to the bitter end.

Only you can really know
how my story will be told.
The footprints on my dusty road
mark the Shadows of my Soul.

Search of a Dream

I wander in the darkness of my dream
in search of a place none have seen.
It is hard to do in the dark of night
but, I see your face and now have a light.

Love Never Ends

There is a place where young hearts go,
to know the purpose of love yet told,
Within the bounds of that mystic place,
dreams and reason come face to face.

The mind in thought takes special care,
to guide the heart of the rapture there.
Abiding the feelings of lover or friend,
is a promise today, love never ends.

Love's Age

What is love when you get our age?
Is it a condition to which the heart is guaged?
Is the feeling still there from whence it came?
Will it last forever and be the same?

I do not have the answers but this I know.
Each day with you adds peace to my soul.
So as we journey together God has a plan.
And you've touched the heart of this old man.

Grandpa's Farewell

I have delighted in you since you were seven.
Saw your beauty when you reached age eleven.
My heart always moves when you are near.
But shortness of my time has made me fear.
I write these things so you know what you mean.
Because time will come when I'm no longer seen.
My world may end the moment I'm gone.
But you'll be in my heart in loving song.

Light

You are the light that comes tonight.
The beam that makes my dream so bright.
As I sleep in the dark of night.
What joy I'll have till morning light.

Sounds

Life goes by ever so silently now.
The laughter that once broke that silence
is only in my imagination.
You have become dreams on which I rely
and it is in those dreams I often touch you.
I am constantly sorting out the memories of you.
I drown myself in the pleasant ones.
My heart will always yearn for the peace it once knew.
I go on knowing that peace will come.
Meanwhile only I will hear these tears
that fall and this heart as it breaks.
God. How very loud the sound.
