Just To Say Hi

The smell of sweat in her
Husband's office hovers.
Heavy loneliness making me
Itch.

You love her, but not like you
Did with mom.
A loop of metal looked
Heavier in person.

I can hear your breathing
In the next room.
You told you just wanted
To say hi.

You closed the door
A quiet thud.
Shadows of his work
Dancing on the walls with
Cars driving by
Outside.

Betrayal like a salty residue
Sinking into my skin.
So thick I can taste it.
I didn't expect this kind of
Desert.

Why did you bring me here?

Waiting For the Gun

Two minutes. Waiting.
My heart is ready to burst.
The lanes are naked, clean,
ready to be torn up by cleats
and sweat.

Hundreds of eyes blinking and
staring.
Chatter swarmed into a calm
storm underneath this dome.

Waiting is the hardest part.
The anticipation, building.
Struggling to breathe as I
strategize.

Faster here.
Ease up here.
Go for the kill.
Take him.
A vision.

It’s almost time. Everything
is clenched. Find my control.
Don’t go out too fast, find your
stride. Tail the leader.
Wait for the moment.

Step up onto the lanes.
Red and white.
My teammates looking on.
The stakes digging into my
Stomach.

Step up to your blocks.
My heart beats faster.
I want to throw up.
This is it.

On your mark.
My ankles shiver.
Adrenaline at full throttle.
I can’t lose. I can’t lose. Go.

Trivial Revelation

Any day like today
Yesterday or
Tomorrow

A lonely long sidewalk
Music
Spearing from ear to ear
The same steps you’ve walked
Your entire life.

Notes building, gentle
Gliding sounds stringing
Your childhood to Now
A vision old images pouring out
In a new way never seen before.

Step, step, step.
Breathe in, breathe out
The heartbreak floating beside
The ultimate achievement like
Sisters separated at birth.

The kiss that shook mountains
The glance that dripped evil
Goosebumps, ice cold
The words that got me over it
The cigarette you had when yo knew

No plank on this March
Nay, the sidewalk turns to brick
An uninterrupted mirage of life
Coming alive knowing the walk
Has so much ahead.
