A Song For Lady Sovereignty Iii

here are the words, remember them, remember us, and we will remember you

lady sovereignty, hear me
help me to live honestly
guide me and my inner me
restore my feet and lead me
across clear and feathered fields
toward competence
creation, inspiration
independence with connection

so no longer will i float about
in the skin of a long lost fawn
who waits in silence to be rescued
by the ones who left me so easily and cold
i have tired of the chase which leaves me hungry
angry
wanting more of the real thing
help me to remember what is important
help me to lead myself in a good way

i will listen, wait, and prepare
fresh, wet wreaths for your arrival
so easily will you float into my lungs
clear me out and hatch me open
inside the nest of patient sovereignty

i will think by feeling
and i will listen to my thoughts
i will drift and ride inside your current
with an open mind and invitation
i will teach, learn, and recreate myself
each morning
that way my will
will never be destroyed
choked or forgotten

help me be the steaming light
that rushes from your strong
outspoken, ancient choral drum
i will memorize your sound
and listen deeply when you speak
you say your name means
that of self-acceptance
of self-awareness
inner guidance
ideas, peace, and family
well i will take these words
and crush them up
and with them
i will paint myself anew
i will walk clearly, honestly
with both palms turned up and free
to trust and work and live my life
for lady sovereignty

A Song For the Spirit of Creativity

where will i find her?
i will find her hiding
inside a triangle
humming, bent over
and sewed into
my many great grandmother's
signature
buried, saved
for the hungriest of winters

like a swan passing
white with long leaps
shapeless spirit
who keeps
herded colors
locked inside her
bone tooth box
stars on either side

the sweetest prayers
work best with tears
i will go crying in to the night
red all over
i will go dangling my song
howl for dawn
creativity
you told me to come!
my woman drummers drumstick
is stored, come straight
a thick and sticky swaddle
for my dream children
for all the ideas in my mind

help me
hear me
i am afarid of this silent birth
geometric babies
overwhelming strength
in words
i believe in the cloud
you float in over me
my needle
my thread
my fingers
this earth paint
every single sight and all the words combined

some say you are dead
gone with the rest of
our world hoop
ha!
i see you in the water
where you breath in the screams
of wishes
woman who you collect
drop by drop by drop
woman whose
skill is not enough for you
women whose
minds are not yet open

spirit i am aware that you presented yourself to me in my mind world last night and i am
here to sing to this song to beg and plead for you to pity me
prove the story my grandmother heard while inside her mother
about rainstorms
that bled glass
beads
shapes
rhythm
a steady flow
it all fell into my palm
only one woman every thousand years
here i am
it is me
shapeless spirit
you offered me the power to create
i accept

A Song For Lady Sovereignty

a song for lady sovereignty
this is the first thing i remember

i was a husky, curled, and waking moon
when i first dreamed this dream
when my blue and yellow inside sea
first saw lady sovereignty
she was a twisty movement of ease and grace
a healthy, strong
brown-red hourglass
slippery, windless
aching to resurface
to wrap her damp knot of answers
around my confused and dependent blues
to revive my glum and gloomy attitude
toward reason

he was floating golden bright
when he first felt her sound
a hidden figure
dressed in rocky
warm, and rolling ivy gowns
his frame was shaken as she starting singing
a song that had no words
she held his face and surged him forward
toward rebirth by beaded turns
instead of absorbing, he pushed her
ignored her
and cried out loud in lonely fear

'pesky lady, get away from me
just five more minutes at my mother's breast
a little more time in her prickly
long dead, rotten arms
that i half believe are comforting
i like the stink, the selfish, disillusioned power
that my new great father taught me
i do not need you! i do want you, lady sovereignty'

so now forever he remains underneath
darkness
pretending all the while

but to me, her mystery smelled sweet
the waters calmed, she drifted ever upward
and asked to strike a deal
'use your words for good
to cure
to remind the people
to heal
to revitalize and resurrect, to inhale united
to sit in silence, to listen, to be still
to regain control from the shadow maker
and walk down roads where winds are soft and patient'

lady sovereignty, she promised me
and i took her at her word
fear will leave me if i let it
if i have the nerve to rise and steer
with her through truth's fluent, fluctuating ravine
so i stamped my stamp onto dried bark
sealed with sap and folded clean
sang songs out loud for courage
allowed myself a fighting chance
and joined the band of lady sovereignty

A Song For Lady Sovereignty Ii

now here i stand, the stage is set
the wave is coming on
to walk sincerely, determined
always learning
to think our own thoughts for us
gently, gently, gently
won't you come into this dream?
a simple balance of simple ingredients
and it will stick if you just let it
i know of your disease
your pouts are heard long throughout these halls
of darkness of hurt feelings of forgetting

but i am here to offer a solution
there has been lousy odds
for far too long, i know
and whatever happens we will row forward
we will come together
to catch her
retrieve her, store her
and bring her up into our consciousness
and give her back to us
sacred, holy, balanced cascades of sovereignty
where barriers are made of wild roses
that we stop and rest beside
only to rise and continue
in a way that will make our children happy
no longer will the bad times keep us prisoner
no longer will the bad times be our slow and silent killer
with long, stringy, poisonous tangles
that have been choking us from the inside out

will you join me? do not ignore me!
we are running out of daylight
and you will miss me when i go
if you want tomorrow to be the place
where red river women are free to freely be
where evenings feel like they belong again
where unhealthy silence is broken
and good words are spoken
and she is felt and heard around the world
then allow yourself to take control
to sing, to dance, to cry, to pray
with lady sovereignty

A Song For Falling

may came in a field
we were born no identification card
no noise
only stillness

until our spirit song
poured out our first cry
for the unknown
westward dancing woman

feed me
hold me
love me
pity me
let me fly

In a V we will beat our wings red
our kind knows no fear of heights
we fly above your book of reason
we watch everything, we notice
grandma said
'speak to all things and wait
do not come home until they answer'
each word is a miracle
with out voice our V will fall
our circle will crumble

when moon rules the old ones will
perform our past
we are cold but we live with purpose
our babies do not learn anger
our babies teach us how to soar
until our wings ache

then, after hundreds of painted winters
we will fall behind
red V will keep flying
the young will wail and give
away everything
and never speak our name again

on our way down we will prepare our exit
we will laugh
kiss
we will sing our death song
our words chirp at once
we will float, beat
and howl at the moon

our first cry will return
to the stretching thunder women
we will smile
grab hold
again
and again
and again
returning
