Secret Land, An Epic Poem Part 3

This is posted in 3 parts because it was too long to be posted as one.
My name is Kayla Thomas and this poem is for the contest Three Gems, in the contest section.
This was written on 7/29/11.

I return to my people with a warm greeting, then we prepare an attack
When it comes to people we outnumber them, but in weapons we have a lack
We cross many plains and hills until we finally reach the dreaded enemy
As we march forward the woman take out their flutes and play a war time melody
The men draw their swords as they plunge forward, taking down all who stand in their way
I shoot arrows at the enemy, trying to keep their marching and invading soldiers at bay
I know that if I die I can never return here, so I am fighting with all my might
My people are giving their all to save the country they love and end this fight
The battle is long and drawn-out; it is both bloody and fierce
I see my prince die before my eyes, but there is no time for tears
The battle is finally over and we have won, but at what cost?
Was it worth all the tears that were shed, all the blood that was lost?
I pick myself up from the ground, and brush off the dirt on my clothes
As I leave my people I realize that freewill is something so delicate, it can’t owned
Upon my arrival back to reality I set fire to the door of imagination with coal
A land and it’s people is something that no one should, or ever can control

A Love That's Mine

Everyone’s turned against us, but I know that we’ll be just fine
Cause I know they all want to the have kind of love that’s mine
Nobody can take away this feeling that we’re feeling right now
To all those people out there who think they can judge us, I say ciao
They say we’re not right for each other, that it could never work out
But I know that this is gonna be a love will last, without a single doubt
We just have to stand strong, we can’t let them wear us down
Cause as soon as we graduate, we’ll be gone and out of this town

I knew about your broken past, but I chose to love you anyway
If they come and try and fill me with doubt, I’ll just show them the doorway
They don’t understand how you and I can create a love that can shine
But no matter what they say don’t let them make you go out of your mind
Who do they think they are telling us what to do-never deciding for ourselves?
They can’t tell us we’re wrong just because they can’t find our kind of love for themselves
Their lies are so loud, so believable, that they’re hard to ignore, just like a billboard
sign
But I’ll never let this go, no matter what they say, cause I’ve finally found a love
that’s mine

Dark Side of Love

He used to be so fun and happy
Now he seems so sad and angry
He never seems to smile anymore
I’ve never seen him this way before
I just want my old friend back
The one who could always make me laugh

It only got worse as time went on
It was then I knew my old friend was gone
He started to get far and distant
I tried, but I couldn’t make sense of it
I started to wonder what went wrong
Was it something that could be undone?

I can see the evil gleam in his eyes
It’s all part of his journey to the dark side
Looking back I can’t help but feel it’s all my fault
Even thought it was his own choice to join the cult
I know there’s no one to blame
And in the end he couldn’t be tamed

Love Dies

I feel like the floor has dropped beneath me
I try to go on, but my eyes can’t see
Tears lie beneath the surface, threatening to spill
It’s when I’m wounded that you go in for the kill
Every lie you spread, every little remark
Is just like another stab in my heart

It’s not enough for you to see me die a little on the inside
You have to see me broken down and tossed aside
You go around wondering why nobody likes you
But is it really such a mystery? They all see the real you
They all know that if they anger you, you’ll go behind their backs
You’ll spread rumors about them, and never state the facts

All the lying and gossiping and backstabbing
You don’t know how it feels, you’re not understanding
You act like I’m a slave you can command
When I try to fight back, I get a reprimand
I used to be fooled by you, I thought you were nice
But your heart is as cold as a sculpture made of ice

I’m ashamed to say that I once loved you, I felt so sure
But I couldn’t see past the man I thought you were
When you loose love, only half of you remains alive
I thought it was a love that could last forever, a love that could thrive
I look into your eyes now, and all I see are lies
But I guess that’s what happens when love dies

Undeniable

I don’t like her, he says he loves her
I don’t know what he sees in her
I want him to look at me
The way he stares at her
And it’s killing me inside
I can’t put my feelings aside
You’re my best friend
But it’s getting harder to pretend

When I cry
You always make it alright
She’ll never love you
The way I want to
Who could deny these butterflies?
They’re undeniable, undeniable
But you wait and see
You’ll fall in love with me
Who could deny these butterflies?
They’re undeniable, undeniable

You can be my Romeo
And I can be your Juliet
I really do love you
And I just have to tell you
We’re made for each other
Nobody will love you
More than I want too
Who could you deny these butterflies?
They’re undeniable, undeniable
They’re undeniable, undeniable
Undeniable

Lie - Part 2

We’re back to the beginning, we’re back to the start
The pain I feel is like a weight on my heart
You know how it hurts, it’s like a knife in my back
You don’t care at all about the pain I hold back
It’s never gonna end, we’re back to square one
I feel like giving up, but then she’ll have won
I don’t want to lose you, I want to work this out
But I want to know that you’re true to me without a doubt

You’ve changed so much, I don’t even know you anymore
All you give me is regret, and I’m thinking of leaving more and more
I see that sad look on your face and think, ‘oh great, here we go again’
You keep me hanging on with an empty promise, but it’s never gonna end
Everybody’s telling me I’m wrong and you’re right, but I know the truth
There are people who actually understand, and they agree with me and not you
Your friends think they know me, they think they know what’s going on
But they don’t know that I’ve tried to deal with it and I’ve tried to be strong

You’re like an drug that causes me so much pain but I can’t seem to quit
You make me feel like I’m special and wanted, you’re so addictive
It’s like you don’t even hear a word I say, I repeat myself week after week
I don’t believe you anymore, you make promises you don’t keep
I gave you my heart, and it didn’t take you long to wreck it
I can’t believe that you loved me for even a second
You keep my head spinning, boy you’re making me dizzy
You’re the one that lies, but you make me feel like I’m the one that’s crazy

Secret Land, An Epic Poem Part 1

I open the door and cross the threshold of imagination
The place where I go is a secret land of my own creation
It leads me to a world filled with magic and wonder
To a ballroom where the chatter is as loud as thunder
I dance with a prince; so kind and handsome is he
His gaze never strays, he only has eyes for me
We dance for a while, then stop when he starts to talk,
While I look into his beautiful eyes and try not to gawk
His eyes hold many secrets, something enigmatic
He whispers as tells me of something truly traumatic
He tells me of the coming of a disastrous war cloud
Then he grabs my hand and we slip away from the crowd
We’ve no time to waste, we must run and hide right away
He leads me through the snow and helps me onto a sleigh
He grabs the reigns and the horses push forward, taking us far away
I smell smoke, and look upward to see the sky has turned an ashy gray

Waiting For the Dawn

Ever since you left our town I feel there’s no one I can trust
I didn’t want you to leave, but I’ll try to let you go if I must
I wonder how it could’ve been for us; I could’ve been the one
I wanted to find out, but now it’s too late-you’re already gone
I wish I could’ve told you how I felt when I told you goodbye

But instead I watched from the window as you left, about to cry
And now every single time I close my eyes, you’re all that I can see
And when I look at your photo my heart stops and I can’t breathe
You could’ve worked it out, you could’ve stayed if you’d wanted too
Late at night I wonder if I could’ve stopped you if only I knew

Why did you have to leave? Why did you have to go?
I was hurting on the inside, but somehow I didn’t let it show
Why did you have to go? Why did you have to leave?
Would you have stayed if I had begged with a ‘please’
You never were the type to stay somewhere for too long

And until we meet again this is gonna be your never ending song
I still don’t know if I can ever heal from a heartbreak just like this
Because for me just being near you everyday was pure bliss
You’re just like the others in my life, you come and then you’re gone
Every night I go to bed with tears for you, just waiting for the dawn

I should’ve told you I loved you from the very first day we met
But when I tried to tell you it was like my words got caught in a net
I never will forget your face, it’s in my heart, it can’t be erased
Everything reminds me of you, no matter where I go, every single place
I never will forget the special way you looked at me that one day

But I was so shy, I couldn’t even form the words to say, ‘Hey’
I hope one day that I’ll cross your mind and you’ll look back and smile
While you reminisce of me and all the good time we had for a while
I really hope you don’t forget to remember me and all the fun we had
And if you ever felt the same way about me, please don’t be sad

Even if I go for an eternity without seeing your face again
My love for you is never gonna die, it’s never gonna end
Sometimes I can’t help but wonder: will I ever see you again?
Will you come back to me one day, or is this really the end?

Set You Free

I’m standing in the doorway, waiting for goodbye
It’s not worth fighting for, I’m not even gonna try
I should’ve seen the end, back at the very beginning
We couldn’t stop fighting, and nobody was winning

You should know how much it hurts, to see you walk away
But I think it’s better if we go our separate ways
I will always remember you, you’ll always be with me
You might not understand why I left, but one day you will see

We never would’ve worked out, it was a failure from the start
But even though we lost, you will forever be in my heart
One day you’ll find someone who’s better for you than me
She’ll come along and steal your heart, and you’ll give her the key

I love you enough to let you go-let you go just like a dove
I know you’ll be so happy with her, you’ll both be so in love
Then you’ll think of way back when, and you’ll remember me
And you’ll think of me with fondness as the girl who set you free

What You'Ve Done Before

I just want you to know
That I don’t care what you’ve done before
We’ve all got skeletons in our closet
But you don’t have to hide it
You can tell me all your secrets, I’ll tell you mine
You can trust me, all it takes is time

I’m gonna love you no matter what
No one’s made it through life uncut
Listen up, I’m gonna give you my heart
I trust that you’ll protect it like valuable art
I just want you to know
That I don’t care what you’ve done before
