The Worst Thing You Could Say

It makes me sick.
My heart races.
I feel all the blood drain out of my body.
I start shaking.
The screen I'm staring at, transfixed.
As if I'm looking at a train wreck.
And I'm the victim.
I can't read these words anymore.
I can't stand this.
But I know they'll be with me forever.
They've been burned into my brain.
Carved into me with some sharp object.
I'll hear them every time someone opens their mouth.
I'll hear them every time you say "I love you".
They'll haunt me every night.

The words I could never make you say.
