Joni Wainwright Poem
You were born out of my body,
And they placed you in my arms.
Right then I vowed to always
Protect you from all harms.
When you were just an infant,
You started up your " shakes".
The jerks, the stares, the blankness
were more than I could take.
As days flew by I studied
all that I could find.
Seizures and impairments
were all that filled my mind.
Then came Cerebral Palsy,
And more and more I read.
There were so many things
I crammed into my head.
Doctors aren't really sure
What's running through your mind
I just smile and tell them
You'll do so in YOUR time.
The things I though important
So far in the past,
Could never hold a candle
To the way you, my daughter, laughs.
As I go to bed tonight,
I'll no longer weep.
I'll quietly sneak to your room
Just to watch you sleep.
