A Changing Life

My wife was young, not one of the old timers
When she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
I saw it coming, but it was a stranger
And no-one told me of the danger.
At first she got worried
When I wasn’t home;
She doesn’t like
Being alone.

As time goes by, her memory falters,
Interest fades, reality alters.
I love her so much
I’ll never leave;
Even though
I already grieve.

Day by day our world turns round
Different to yours, I’ll be bound.
Sometimes she’s happy
Sometimes she’s sad;
I’m still with her
Of that I’m glad.

The story’s end may be far or near
When and where will never be clear.
The mind may go
There are no cures;
The body weakens
But love endures.

The Wall

Sitting on a Wall
Waiting.
Waiting while fools rush by,
Worn down heels, trodden on
Then thrown away, to be left
Sitting on a Wall.
Wondering
Wondering why I was born to be
So I could see no rhyme, no reason,
For me to be
Sitting on a Wall.
Dreaming;
Dreaming of a life with you
At the centre of a galactic whirlpool
Of infinite life and depth
The stars rush round me and I’m left
Sitting on a Wall

The Wall

Sitting on a wall
Thinking
Thinking while feet rush by
Worn down heels trodden on
Then thrown away
To be left,
Sitting on a wall
Dreaming
Dreaming of a life with you
In the centre of a galactic universe
Of infinite life and depth
The stars rush round me and I'm left
Sitting on a wall
Wondering
Wondering why I was born to live
So I could see no point, no purpose
For me to be
Sitting on a wall
Unhappy.

Realistic Thoughts

Loss, like love, is a state of being
It can’t be explained , it has no meaning
It will fill your world, excluding the rest
It will last for ever, it can’t be suppressed.

But if you have loss you’ve also had love
That is the miracle sent from above
For life, without either, is shallow indeed
Their lack creates a soul in need.

So carry on living, loving and losing
Carry on working, laughing and boozing
Life’s too short to mourn and despair
While love and loss are everywhere.

Daughter Birthday

When the chips are down and help is needed
We know where to turn if love is heeded
For a daughter like you is rare indeed
That fulfils that love, fulfils that need.

We've seen you grow, we've seen you fight,
To know the difference between wrong and right
We're proud as punch to call you ours
And we love it when you bring us flowers.

Another birthday comes then goes,
Another line in your life of prose
Where couplets do not always rhyme
Where music is not always in time.

But hey! That's life and didn't we warn yer
That surprises lurk round every corner.
And sometimes it's better to go with the flow
Than stick to all the things you know.

So daughter dear have no fear
For like it or not we'll always be near;
In your heart and in your soul
Part of us all, part of the whole.

The Other Side

Loss, like love, is a state of being
It can’t be explained , it has no meaning
It will fill your world, excluding the rest
It will last for ever, it can’t be suppressed.

But if you have loss you’ve also had love
That is the miracle sent from above
For life, without either, is shallow indeed
Their lack creates a soul in need.

So carry on living, loving and losing
Carry on working, laughing and boozing
Life’s too short to mourn and despair
While love and loss are everywhere.

My Wife

You’re gorgeous and clever, inspiring and quick,
Beautiful and sassy, you know every trick.
I know when I’m beaten, I know when you win,
But who can resist the touch of your skin?

You’re my wife and I like it,
You’re my woman as well;
You’re my muse and my priestess,
Don’t send me to hell.

Send me to heaven, as you do every day,
That you’ll kiss me each moment is something I pray,
Hold me tight and never let me go
Look into my eyes where my love will show.

Forty-one years sounds like a lot,
But a love like ours is not soon forgot,
1.3 billion seconds in fact
From the very first time we made our pact.

Hour by hour, day by day,
Our life together goes on its way.
It’s always absorbing, never dull
And in my love for you, there’ll be no lull.

Enjoy the pressies, enjoy our life,
I’ll never regret making you my wife.
I’m just a man whose name is Pete
And being your husband is my finest feat.

Birthday Love

Our life changes like the endless sea,
Together, we’ve changed as one.
As one door closes, another’s set free,
Through the rain, beneath the sun.

Although I’ve known you for an age,
I may not know you at all.
It doesn’t matter what the page,
It’s the book that does enthrall.

You are unique, I know no other,
Who can tie my heart so tight.
You’re such a wife, such a mother,
And loving you is right.

Let

Let my eyes be amazed by your beauty,?
Let my heart be warmed by your smile.?
Let my ears always hear that you love me,
Let my lips kiss yours for a while.

Let my arms hold you close when you're sad,?
Let my hugs make you warm when you're cold.?
Let my love last as long as forever,?
Let both of us never grow old.??

Let me promise you'll never be lonely,?
Let me promise to always be true,?
Let me promise I’ll be yours only,
Let my life be always with you.
??
