Flowers On the Tree

Vibrant flowers bloom
Across the old mango tree
Teaches a lesson
That youth blossoms from the old
Yet the old are the sweetest

Technology and the Environment

He must save the world,
He who is one with machines.

We’ve dug a deep hole,
Too deep for men with shovels.
Erosion of soil,
Habitat degradation.
Lack of fresh water,
Just look at California.

Who can save our world?
Engineers that build the truss.
Which can hold our load,
These burdens we self-impose,
Look forward: There’s no way back.

Nature

Nature is the place I go to clear my head,
Jays are blue, cardinals red.

The hum of bugs,
The crawl of slugs,
The dirt below and trees above.

Funny how the woods contain so much brown,
A color you don't often find walking through town.

Distancing ourselves from dirt with boots,
There is special irony in the saying, "Remember your roots."

The Toilet Seat Dilemma

Toilet seat up?
If yes, stress
Big mess.
If no, oh
So less stress
So less mess
Less mess for Jess.
Rhyming aside, I hope it’s down.

Ocean

Do
You feel
Flowing waves
From the ocean
Tides

Poo Haiku

Something smells in here,
John forgot to flush again,
I think I'll move out!

Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda

"Coulda, woulda, shoulda," is keeping me awake,
Things I could have stopped,
Things I would have done,
Things I should have said.

Those who do not speak will not be heard,
Things unspoken,
Promises broken,
Bottle up inside their heads.

I've seen two teacher scandals in my time,
Red flags mistaken,
Actions not taken,
Still haunt my nightly dreams.

Seen a friend pass, coulda asked him how he was,
Woulda counseled had I known,
Shoulda have made an effort,
It still haunts my nightly dreams.

From all the lessons I've learned with time,
The greatest I have learned,
Do not let your silence,
Speak louder than your words.

Speak up.

Nature, Lay With Me

All is calm outside,
I feel the air flowing free.

Wind wraps 'round the trees,
Whispering softly to my ears.

Nature lays with me,
She assures me all is well.
Everything will be alright.

Faking Happiness

I wake up ,
I fake on that smile,
It’s a quarter to four,
Light won’t come up for a while.

I look to my left,
I look to my right,
Just the way I like it,
No one else is in sight.

I think of words,
As I lay in my dark,
Words sad to others,
Words I can mark.

Mark as ideas,
For a song you won’t hear,
About poor old me,
And my life with no cheer.

It’s half past five,
An hour ‘til light,
The dark is almost over,
Soon I’ll have to fight.

To hold back how I feel,
To hold back all my pain,
I know I’m not healthy,
Faking happiness is my strain.

Hobbies

I go through phases.
Inventor, tennis player, runner, and musician to name a few.
They say the jack of all trades is the master of none.
That's the beauty of hobbies.
Self perception is all that matters.
That's why I'm here.
I believe in my art and my poetry.
Not because people think it's any good,
But because I appreciate it.
Call it selfish,
But don't forget to call it realistic.
