William Rose Poem
The temperature is changing
Rains become a common event
On a morning’s day fog
Where the cool clouds accent
Collecting peat for the fire
A hearth built on November’s eve
Scratch the flint stones quickly
To start the blaze of unity
Add some twigs and dry grass
Throw in your problems too
Set aside your fadhbanna
Keep your focus on good days through
Peer across the room for her visage
Connect those suns in the galaxy
Pledge one’s hand across the room
Meeting a woman who speaks sweet fallacy
Welcome her gaze in the dance
A frolic around the pyre
Touching souls we stared at lovingly
No words, just pure desire
Embraces and side glances
Twirls, treble, and side steps
Jigs, clicks, and arches
Brought the two of us to depths
We sat down at the table
Grabbed a piece of Bairin Breac
She searched for a gorgeous ring
As I just enjoyed the cake
We laughed and shared this moment
Gazing into eternity
Caried the plate outside
A treat provided to Aos Sí
The empty chair beside me
A plate for aunt Áine
Rest my Gaelic god mum
Along the banks of Shannon’s lane
A tear fell down my face
As her hand reached and wiped away
She pulled me to the hatch
And pushed the door astray
We walked amid the turnips
Skeleton men welcoming family
Guarding against the Sluagh
Closed the west windows with strategy
As the ember glitter failed
The quiet hours near end
I peered across the table
My múirnín stills transcends
