Sleepless ones

broken souls and broken hearts,
the sleepless ones who look at torn stars,
the twinkling lights that blink afar,
city lights blurred with blinding cars,
are all befriended by the dreamless faces,
that look like lost and stolen art;

estranged glances and estranged words,
the sound of silence they've always heard,
fragrances of the night that are so absurd,
keep alive the sleepless ones who are lured,
by the dark and scary midnight,
when the sky bears no birds;

fluttering curtains and fluttering wind chimes,
the blazing noise that seeps in from the outside,
sleepless ones try their best to hide,
but Oh! It's already twilight,
the sun and moon sit beside,
while sleepless ones look at committed crimes;

a new dawn and a new day,
it has unwillingly arrived,
another night with no dreams,
another dark time where past screams,
when the moon hears no cries,
it means the sleepless ones have died.

A Glimpse of Us

Everything has a soul; maybe it’s true,
The walls have ears,
do objects have eyes too?
I look at them and they at me,
displaying wonders, they’ve seen of you.
Captured like a moment in time,
these things store a glimpse of you.

I touch the table and see your figure,
Scribbling into a paper with furrowed brows.
I lay on the bed and you smile so bright,
cuddling, kissing, discussing knows and hows.
I open the cupboard and there’s your face,
Unsure of what to wear tomorrow.

I close the windows and feel your hands,
That hold me oh so tightly, that’s where I belong.
I look into the mirror and you look back,
A vision forever etched in my mind.

I step inside the room,
seeing you everywhere yet nowhere in a daze.
I walk through the door in a rush,
Only to see you gone.
Like poets waiting for a subject with tears in their eyes,
I stand there silently, all tattered and torn.

Yours poetically,

My Abyss

the broken camera in my hand,
the burnt film in yours,
is this our end?
what if i still want more?

the shards of glass fallen down,
i see my reflection torn,
the sadness turns to a frown,
where to have you gone?

colours are everywhere,
lights and fireworks,
Oh! such a beautiful stare,
but why suddenly this dark?

this swallowing sadness,
please save me, i'm lost,
an inescapable deep abyss,
it feels cold, as empty as trust.

is this me inside?
is this inside me?
i have no where to go,
where are the colours i once held onto?

it's all in monotone,
maybe black, maybe white,
i want to explore,
but i can't see any hope or light.

i see a little me who is vibrant,
what a pleasant sight,
i feel something vibrate,
and i wake up, with tears in my eyes.

A Kerala Thought

If I could be,
I would choose the salt air,
Running over thrashing waves,
Kissing foam and hugging rocks,
Flying with those birds,
And landing on golden brown hair.

If I could be,
I would choose the fungi,
Standing on a lone brick wall,
Reminiscing in the cracks of past,
And looking back at the glitter in child-like eyes.

If I could be,
I would choose the vapour cloud,
Flowing aimlessly, crafting myself as I go,
And looking down at life,
Without the intention to pry.

If I could be,
I would choose a coconut tree,
Standing tall, touching my blues,
While staying on the ground.

If I could be,
I would choose a shell by the sea,
Building my patterns with time,
And be cherished by nostalgia as a memory keeps me alive.

If I could be,
I would choose everything except what I am,
For creatures of wisdom carry the burden of choice;
I run towards the future,
As my decisions weigh me back,
I realise the only way to escape,
Is when light leaves my eyes.

Maybe that is when I will be free,
Without these choices and just let me be.
Until then, I shall use my breath to decide,
If I could be,
What would I choose in my next life?

Yours poetically,

Stars Rain Down

I wondered if all these stars;
would ever fall to the ground;
walking away, wandering around;
painfully hoping for magic to be found;
my curiosity was blissfully piqued;
when I heard that melancholic sound;
pitter patter pitter patter;
my heart was served on a platter;
out for the mindless demons to devour;
the ones who roamed on droplets left to scatter;
I looked up and saw the sign;
the absence of light;
and the gray cloudy skies;
it was my cue to leave I thought;
my brain walked but body stopped;
oh, it falls so cool, so calm;
the bead of water on my palm;
my dark orbs match the floating mystery;
letting the tears out of misery;
I look at my torn sleeve;
wounds so deep, I never had seen;
my soul cries for the time lost;
regret finds it’s solace in anger;
it overflows in me and slips away;
the stars stayed in place and didn't fall down;
but my sorrows did;
down with the rain and into the ground.

A Haunting

You start your day before rays hit earth,
Oh darling, did you catch all your worms?
Rushing through figures like bees in a prairie,
Did you manage to fly above?
You sit at your desk and take a breath,
Either you’re punctual or you’re dead.
One task after another, when did time pass by?
To-do lists occupy your mind.

Have you eaten? Oh, dear you haven’t!
C’mon you gotta fuel your body lil guy.
With a sigh you push yourself up,
The noise of cracking bone surrounds.
Birds of a feather, eat together,
Beings that preach live love and laugh,
You think about the life you’re living now,
A race you have to run, with or without you will;
At least you can’t lose where you’re the only contender.

Dissociation is a tactic to wonder,
You realise when your buddy snaps you out.
Pack your back and go home, it’s late;
Let’s walk home together you say,
It has been a good day mate,
No coffee spilled on your trouser.
Chuckles leave your mouth as you grin,
You nudge their shoulder and walk away.

A place called home finds your sight,
Must feel great to be inside,
Healthy, happy and moisturised;
On your bed with closed doors and nightlights,
Maybe you’ve already reached the land of dreams;
I have an inkling I’m wrong about you, unlike they say,
As I heard your muffles the other night.
All I could do was stand surprised,
For you has just smiled, gleefully recalling your day,
You say you flow like water and fit like a glove,
But when the moon comes up, what haunts you my love?

Yours poetically,

Soul of the City

and if I had a home,
maybe i could hide in it's womb;
crawling out to a new beginning,
but pieces of familiarity hold me ashore.

with winds so harsh and nights so cold,
there is a city in my dreams;
her soul screeches as she mirrors my own.
she has seen me, a quiet rageful teenager,
bloom into the arms of youth;
she screams her lungs out,
so I can breathe;
for I can only find peace in a tempest.

which city would do that for you, she asks?
An unfaithful tear leaves my eye,
I want you to feel like home,
as I fall into the dilemma of hope.
I am a mere stop in your journey she cries,
My heart cannot contain ambitions so high.
I will come back for you and your tides;
Your skies cradling me up as I lay beside,
I am haunted by where the journey decides I belong.

The many cities I have encountered,
They never wrote me a song.
A city up in the north, she sings lullabies
An old soul, she's very wise yet,
Not a single word when I had arrived;
Just a faceless soul and bound limbs.

She still manages to smile aloud,
Even cry when she's filled up to brim;
I look at her and pass by again,
still in search for a home,
but whenever a city comforts me;
the thread of fate unties,
and I am left again with a new soul,
figuring out her voice.

The sunset is beautiful, isn't it?

The sun has risen yet again,
forgetting what happened yesterday.
A ray of light, a ray of hope;
had never looked so colorful.
The clouds whispered to the winds,
my feet felt the cold ground;
and I stood as if there existed no crowd.

Chilling breeze had then turned warm,
right above my head stood the sun;
the day had just started,
how is it already 12 o' clock?
The pavement started to burn my skin;
I started walking faster cursing the heat,
reached home when sun hit its peak.

A sigh of relief left my lungs,
as the moon took over and night went on;
a strange feeling crawled inside my chest.
I had started to miss the sun.

I missed the warmth, the hope, the light,
but I did not rejoice when it was day;
how could I ever explain?
Voilà, I think I have a tale:

The sun and moon set beside,
but they can never touch.
It is their fate; when the moon arrives,
the sun bids a good bye.

Moonlight is made of glass;
the moon shattering as she cries.
In turn the sun paints the sky,
a beauty for moon to admire.
All while the sun crawls away in silence,
without a whisper, it's out of sight.

The moon only glances in awe
as he tides mimic her wonder.
"Look at those cotton candy skies!!"
Holding a sob, her shoulders get stiff,
The sunset is beautiful, isn't it?
