Cheater

Hey big man, I see you standing there.
My heart you had.
My back you stabbed.

You watched me get sick and fall.
What a terrible fight it was to climb back up that wall.
You went on in stride, no support, no worry at all.

Another woman you found.
She fed your ego,
Made sure you didn’t feel small.

In secret you would text and call.
Days, evenings and night you spent with her.
When I asked, you dismissed it all.
How nice you were out on a date
As I had to sit at home and wait;
The dinner I made you cooling on its plate.

What you told her about me I will never fully know.
Maybe that I wasn’t home, that I didn’t care, or was simply unaware.
I learned on the nights I tried to reach you and was cooly neglected,
She was by your side idly sitting there.
Listening as your dismay for me you would declare.
She knew she was causing damage and despair
But of which she didn’t care.

So enamored you were;
Every morning you woke thinking of her.
Time spent with me you detested;
With her it would‘ve been so sweet.
You told her how great she was,
And when you two couldn’t meet,
It was disappointment you would greet.

You protected her, coveted her, and wanted her so bad,
But she was only after you for what you had.
I should’ve held my mouth.
Watched as her drama bled you dry.
Then you would’ve been the one to cry.

She ruined your family and every bit of trust she stole.
Pretty she’s not, bulbous forehead and face like a troll,
Inside, a nasty, rotted soul,
But her body and false charm she used to get you under her control.

I hope it was worth it .
What you threw away.
Maybe you’ll feel regret or sadness.
Someday.

Karma

I tried to be good in life.
I was honest, worked hard, and was kind,
But all I faced was strife
Bad thoughts permeated my mind.

I became angry.
I was sad,
Downright outrageously mad.
Enough of it I’d had.

I put on my camouflage,
And climbed to the top of a shady knoll.
I waited in quiet.
Hoping to catch Karma out on a stroll.

I waited for days, for months, for years.
Finally, I spotted Karma on the trail.
When she approached, I jumped out
And began to wail,
How, Karma, could you possibly fail?

No one has paid!
No vengeance has been served,
And here I am withered and unnerved.

Karma whispered
Those people for which you have spite
On their door I could arrive, in fact, I just might.
They may fall down the stairs or lose their sight
They may end up alone, or confused, or scared,
I am Karma and I will not tell who I’ve spared.

You’ll never know what I do.
None of what happens is up to you.
Best let go of your hate,
or I, Karma, may follow you back to your gate.

Words

You might show your brawn,
Flex your fists,
But my words are stronger.

You might sharpen your knives,
Slash at my throat,
But my words are sharper.

You might yell and scream,
But my words are louder.

You might push and shove,
Beat me down,
But my words can be brutal.

You might lie and manipulate,
Twist what happened,
But my words carry the truth.

You might try to make sure others don’t hear,
Damper my screams,
But my words won’t be silenced.

Words have power that might can’t conquer.
