Stardust

In the lone sadness of an empty bed,
My mind cannot stop dreaming about you,
And the all pleasant things I wish I said,
But never had it in me to follow through.

You have always been the love of my life.
The beautiful woman who made me shine.
The world without you is a world of strife.
I sparkled like a star when you were mine.

My love for you burns like a yellow flame.
The warmth of your body makes the skies glow.
The twinkle in your eyes set Heavens ablaze.
From the depths of my heart, I want you to know…

I will dig into dirt below the Earth’s crust
And bring Galaxies of golden stardust.

Like The Tide

As the waves crumble to the shore
And doze the seagrass to a still.
My love will always pull back for more
And come back only for you.
I will wash across the sands
And bring you crest and troughs
Of rippled naughty musings to make
You smile.
I will bring the awesome power of
The moons and the sun that stand
Still like a broken clock.
I will jingle across the rocks and bring
The rhythm of angel wings
For you to dance.
I will conquer the essence of love and life
Itself and stay steadfast with the wind
To breathe through your hair.
I will push the claws of gulls and pelicans
Into squawk and haste towards the clouds
To reach you.

For you are the shore that I crash for
I have brought thousands of tiny shells
To feather your ears to sleep.
I have knocked down sand castles and shovels
Buoys, conchs, and the promise of my heart
to wash over your body.
I have come to dance across your toes in gentle
Embrace, rushing between your legs
To bring you home.
I have harnessed the power of Neptune
With my trident and a piece of the Universe.
Searching for your body to be with mine.
To form one ocean again.
And become timeless until the end…
like the tide.

Charting the Stars

When she charts the stars
I fall from the heavens
And slide by her eyes
Of deep glowing moons.
I hold the orbs of her planets
High and firm
With the force of a galaxy.
I glide down the valley
To where the river flows
Inside her swan white thighs
Through the branches of thistle
Swaying to and fro in the lockstep
Of love.
I tell her in the evening
That we have the world at our fingertips
Spinning perfectly on an axis
Of great beginnings.
She smiles and looks back at the stars
And I climb back up again.

Cherish

Lento is the rhythm our hearts once beat.
Mementos we idealized from the past.
Tempos orchestrate our crushing defeat
Crescendos into what could never last.

Of course, we loved the blessed symphony
Endorsed sacred songs mutually shared.
Divorce brought along its cacophony
Forced a melody of chaos unrepaired.

Judges and lawyers pulling wicked strings
Trudges to the beat of our tragic age.
Grudges hammering the half-notes that sting
Besmudges our reputations with rage.

We shall forever cherish the sweet lento.
The easy swing of love so compliant.
Sheet music must come to an end though.
Be in separate beds lone and silent.

Garden of Madness

When she winks and gives me that smirk
It opens a labyrinth where my pleasure lurks.

I walk inside her eyes so kind
Into a garden of madness so divine.
Grapes that grow freely in the snow
Roses that flourishing in blazing glow.
Berries bustling in thick marl and clay.
Dogwoods that rise from the beach of the bay.
Polar bears juggling wild coconuts.
Dolphins on ice skates preparing to lutz.
Kangaroos pirouetting in ballet shoes.
A shark with a guitar singing the blues.

She cannot view all of the beauty I see
When the girl I covets has eyes for me.

Discarded

Queens flush both black and red
Walk inside kingdoms where seldom tread.
The blood on the spade from the dark-hearted
Spares no pain for the discarded.

Buried to the side no one sees
A Joker crying inside his conceit.
For in this game smiles are disregarded
The jovial man, now a clown, discarded.

Kings and Jacks rule over the Numbers
Unaware of such perilous slumber!
For their complacency they shall be martyred
Their blood and toil destroyed and discarded.

The High Ones stand in concert with stars
Above all, from God not so far.
With a stroke of chance be cast with the departed
Below the bottom of a grave, forever discarded.

Crying Stars

I have never seen a star cry
Such weakness does not befit the sky
Inside my tears I search for why
The Heavens above have cursed thy

A solemn light prick from the black
Magnifying all of the virtues I lack
The Darkness which fills the crack
Beckons me to leave and never look back

Shall I forever drown inside the swallow
Never to face my fears tomorrow
Pulled to and from my dreaded sorrow
Into an abyss where no one follows

There is a reason Stars don’t cry
They are shielded from thine naked eye
Having no reason to be prodded or pried
My friend or foe I can’t decide.

Return Address

On the stickers written in black and white
Are our last names on the return address.
It’s been almost a year since we took flight,
When the ocean sprung us from the egress.

We were once so close, now so far apart,
Finding ourselves stuck in separate nests.
The courses we had never planned to chart,
To find a life that we thought was best.

I fly across the sky in search of you.
Hoping I will come to rest where you lay,
To seek the blessed love that we once knew.
If I were to reach you, I would never stray.

Like Lovebirds who stake their devoted claim,
Their tender lodge be writ one and the same.

Succotash

I am not a Succotash man.
There is only so much my pallet can stand.
Each portion belongs to its own.
The hype of variety way overblown.

People tell me to change it up
To toss it around inside the mixing cup
To chew and enjoy all as one
Finding pleasure with a garbled chum

For me, I see too much strife
With the heavy-handed spices of life
Swallowing mysteries too hot to handle
Vicariously living in a lurid scandal.

There is only one meal chosen for me.
It’s the one I long for constantly.
A divine dish made from the Chef above
The meal I speak of is you, my love.

A Lone Red Rose

I brought a lone red rose for you today.
I thought not to bring a glass and water.
We do not have much time here anyway.
I guessed it would be wise not to bother.

You would not want to pack a dozen more.
It would be a waste to leave them behind.
A bundle is often is hard to adore.
A rose by herself will forever shine.

I set the rose on the empty table
To lay alone with a simple grace.
It is the only way I am capable
Of giving your heart the proper embrace.

I brought a rose to celebrate your birthday.
As the years pass, I come to love you so.
The rose is a gift in my humblest way,
To return the love you have always shown.
